To spectators and website viewers at home, Crankworx looks like an epic weeklong party that is all about riding trails, heated competitions and nightly parties put on by different brands or athletes. To be fair, for a large majority of the people there, it is. As each year passes however, the festival is slowly becoming more and more of an industry gathering where brands see a major benefit of attending with product in tow. Product managers meet and discuss future partnerships while marketing specialists tease the media with unreleased products that we get to ride in secrecy before returning it to their off-site townhome rental.
Since we don’t have a small army of photographers swarming the Whistler Bike Park, we knew covering events in a traditional sense just wouldn’t be feasible. Plus, we had a stacked schedule full of meetings with brands to help ensure we could come up with enough 2019 content to keep you all entertained and keep the lights on here at the Wolf Den!
Our goal this year was to bring you along for the ride to see what goes on behind the scenes at Crankworx, or as we now like to call it, Tradeworx. It was a crazy and stressful week of running around from tent to tent and still trying to get out for a few rides in between. And since nothing can be easy, our goal of showing you the whole week’s worth of work still wasn’t possible since most of the products we looked at had embargo dates well beyond when we wanted to post this. Nevertheless, we worked with what we had and think it’s a decent attempt at showing you the other side of Crankworx.
