FASTHOUSE SPEED STYLE GLOVE REVIEW

Words by Cole Gregg  |  Photos by Emma Wooldridge

I would like to say that over the years I have had many pairs of the Speed Style Gloves from Fasthouse, but that would be a lie. They last to darn long to have had multiple pairs! In all seriousness these gloves have been a long time to go for when I choose to wear finger covers. In fact I still have a pair I purchased in 2018, only this year I retired them to trail building gloves.

ABOUT THE FASTHOUSE SPEED STYLE GLOVE

When it comes to gloves there are not a ton of features you can pack into them, but Fasthouse hit it on the head with everything you could hope for in a simple glove with their Speed Style. If you are into knuckle protection, they have that too in their Bronx model.

The palm of the Fasthouse Speed Style glove is made of Clarino® leather, which has proven on multiple occasions to be very durable while still maintaining a thin profile. This helps minimize the bunching of the material when gripping the bar. This material extends up to the thumb crease area, further maximizing coverage in high wear zones. The sides of the fingers are mesh, helping to boost breathability on hot days. The palm is also perforated, further helping with breathability.

The middle and index fingers also have some precisely placed silicon, designed to increase grip on the brake levers. Both the thumb and index finger tips are touch screen compatible, and actually work. The silicon and velcro wrist strap is super sturdy and can be synched down as tight as you can handle.

As with many of the Fasthouse glove models, there are TONS of color and print choices. From the classic black, bright red or even race day white. They seem to consistently update these color offerings so if you find one you like, order a few pairs before they are gone. They retail for $36, but can typically be found with considerable discounts.

THE DIRT

While I do prefer to ride without gloves most of the time, I have two pairs of Fasthouse Speed Style gloves that live in my bike park travel bag. The fit and shape just works for me. I am sort of between sizes in most gloves, with XL’s typically being too bulky and Large being tough to get around my large fist shape. I can run either size in the Fasthouse Speed Styles, but prefer the tighter fit of the large size.

The touchscreen compatible fingertips work great in all but the wettest conditions. To be fair, even with no gloves on those wet days, my phone is quite picky about letting me zoom in on Trailforks. They are not my first choice in the winter here in Spokane, as we often see temps in the low 30’s and high 20’s. But they are my choice outside of the coldest days.

I find that the silicon checkers on the index finger are usually the first part of the glove to fail, and that is after some serious ride time. Pictured below is my first pair. With an insane amount of elevation logged on them, they have held up beyond my expectations. My only gripe with these gloves is that the seam at the tip of the fingers – mostly the index, ring and middle fingers – are a bit thick. When they are brand new you can really feel the seams, but they do tend to break in and fade away after some use.

The palm offers a natural on the bar feel without getting scrunched up. For me the XL’s do scrunch a bit, but I only snagged that size to try running a liner in during the colder seasons. This worked decently well, but was better solved with a dedicated winter glove. P.S Fasthouse please make a dedicated winter glove!

The Wolf’s Last Word

Since getting my original pair back in 2018, I have purchased an additional 5 pairs of Fasthouse Speed Style gloves, all of which were on sale. My last order I picked up a Black and Blue set for just $18 each! With how durable these things are, I doubt your money could be spent better elsewhere.
