E-ENDURO

THE ALL-NEW AC

Devinci’s 2019 AC salutes those about to rock with the kind of slack, aggressive roll you’d expect from the spawn of Spartan—and with the extra oomph of an e-equipped engine. Tame turbulent descents thanks to a generous 170mm of rear travel meets 180mm of finesse in the fork. And then turn around and hit turbo on the uphill. The Shimano STEPS E8000 engine boosts you to speeds of up to 20mph. The drive unit is controlled via a left-hand power-mode switch that triggers three settings (ECO, TRAIL and BOOST) for varied terrain.

What makes DC 29 so dangerously fun is its uncanny ability to acclimate and annihilate anything you point it toward — from technical and gnarled, to rolling and flat-out fast. Agile handling is a function of modern geometry that combines steep seat angles for climbing with slacker head angles for confidence inspiring cornering and control. Made in Canada the bike is crafted from 6066-T6 Aluminum. Molded frame, motor, and battery protection shields the bike from abuse. And armed with Shimano’s next generation e-engine, that integrates seamlessly into the frame, riders will experience a solid pep in their step when it comes time to put the power down.

FIRST RIDE REPORT

We spent the last few weeks putting in some serious time aboard the new Devinci DC. It’s been a lot of fun getting to know this bike and seeing where it shines and what makes it tick. After speaking with Devinci at length, we learned about many of the new tweaks and changes in the 2020 e-bike line. We are happy to report that Devinci listened to rider’s criticisms closely and they have been addressed. Our video review explains many of the features we appreciated most and how the bike behaved on the trail.

Overall we believe Devinci has done a great job stepping up their eMTB line from last year but still wish for just a little bit more. Ideally the bike would have have one or more of these things: a sleeker downtube, a reduction in weight (53lbs), or a slightly lower price.

Going beyond our petty critiques of the value-to-frame design ratio, the Devinci DC really impressed us on the trail. It is a well rounded bike and blends small bump suppleness with big hit capabilities nicely. The Shimano STEPS system works great, the geometry is plenty capable and our testers were very pleased with the improvements made to the ride, specifically the feel of the suspension.  Devinci listened to rider feedback when creating the DC and it shows. We definitely suggest throwing a leg over one of these and trying one out for yourself.
