We’d be lying if we didn’t say we were shooting for the stars when The Loam Wolf was founded back in 2017. It wasn’t necessarily from a comfortable position that we began this endeavor. After a long-time employer informed Loam Wolf founders that they’d be locking the doors at 5PM and we’d be out of work that day, we decided to start Loam Wolf rather than look for new jobs. After seeing how things worked from within the industry, we set out with a vision to do things our own way. Honesty, trust and doing good for the community are cornerstone beliefs that guided our quest for authentic, helpful content.

It’s been an exhausting, stressful and rewarding road since 2017 and while we are beyond grateful for the growth and milestones we’ve achieved along the way, we feel that tugging sensation we felt back in 2017 has grown stronger. We want to do more, create more and support more people trying to make it in the MTB world.

Thanks to our amazing readers who took time to fill out our recent Reader Survey, we’ve decided to embark on a journey we’ve felt tugging at our tails for quite a while. We hope you find value in this as we know and believe that the more support we get here, the more good we can do!

• Time to create more thorough comparative tests. Some examples are tire compound life span vs grip analysis. Brake tests measuring stopping distances based on rotor size and pad compounds. In depth battery range and drive unit testing for eMTBs and other time-consuming head-to-head features.

• Freedom to step away from the barrage of new product releases and content designed to feed the search engines, and instead focus on our goals of delivering the most truthful, objective content we can while also doing the fun head-to-head testing you care about!

• Allow us to say yes to more photographers and videographers who email us asking for support to cover a race, competition or festival. This means more diverse content for readers and also helps keep content creators on the road living their dream of creating MTB content for us to enjoy.

• Creation of a fund to be used for the support of the mountain bike community in need. We’d love to help get people in need on bikes, and to support up and coming racers or freeride athletes who need financial assistance. Whether it’s gas money, tools, entrance fees or needed parts, we want to help more people in their quest. Nothing makes us happier than seeing people stoked and riding bikes!

THE NEW FORUM AND MORE

This new platform is so much more than a forum, it’s more than an online community. Our goal is to create a positive place for riders to talk, learn, share and help while also collecting data and opinions of mountain bikers to help shape the future of MTB product development and pricing. That’s right! We plan to use our position as a middle man between the customer and the brand and unify your voices.

While there are probably more than a few of you out there who own your own business or work in an industry you are passionate about, you’ll likely know that the inner battle is a strong one. While you love what you do and the industry you’re in, the stress, long hours worked and inner drive to always improve can make these “dream jobs” seem just as stressful and real as any other career choice. But our passion for riding and mountain biking as a whole keeps us steadfast as we strive to evolve and do better year after year.
