Endura Hummvee Clipless Shoe REVIEW

Tested by Drew Rohde

Our testers put many months and miles of riding into the long term review of the Endura Hummvee clipless mountain bike shoe. Both Robert and Drew rode the shoes during our eMTB Destination Tour back in 2023 and were happy enough with them that they spent more time riding the Hummvees well into the winter months. While they aren’t perfect, they do offer a few really nice traits that kept them in the gear bag over some of the other options we’ve been riding lately. We’ll get into those below. Spoiler Alert: If you’ve been looking for a clipless mountain bike shoe that has a bit more flex and pedal feel that many others on the market, you may want to skip to our Last Word.

Endura Hummvee Clipless Shoe Review

ABOUT THE ENDURA HUMMVEE CLIPLESS SHOES

Endura took their tried-and-true Hummvee flat pedal shoe and added clipless functionality for riders who like being attached to their bike. The Endura Hummvee Clipless Shoe offers a casual appearance styled like most skate shoes to provide everyday wearability. That clean look is aided by the lack of visible seams due to the welded construction of the poly urethane upper. In addition to the clean lines, extra protection is an added benefit. The Hummvee shoe uses a standard lace closure system along with a Velcro strap helping keep the foot in place. Endura added some performance enhancements to the Clipless Hummvee shoe, mostly based around a more secure fit and increased durability in the form of more robust materials.

Moving on from the upper, Endura’s StickyFoot Grip rubber compound can be found on the sole of the shoe. The StickyFoot Grip rubber helps ensure that you remain connected to your pedals no matter the terrain. Endura has tuned the flex profile of the Hummvee Clipless shoe to combine pedal friendliness and walking comfort. Additional comfort is provided by the Ortholite Recycled comfort footbed.

Endura’s Hummvee Clipless Shoe is available in a range of sizes ranging from US 6 – US 13. The shoe has a retail price of $129.99 / £109.99 and comes in two colors, black or grey with gum soles. The shoes look good and are respectably priced, sitting just below their MT500 Burner Clipless shoe, which retails for $159.

THE DIRT

Reviewing the Endura Hummvee Shoes took Robert and Drew from flowy berms and big jumps in Bend, Oregon to raw chunk in the deserts of Arizona and Utah. We pedaled in cold temperatures with snow on the ground, to warm, dusty days in the desert. A majority of our time was spent riding the Pivot Shuttle LT eBikes that we chose as our official bikes for the Destination Tour. We also spent some days riding them in the bike park, and on longer backcountry rides aboard 140-160mm bikes.

Simply put, the shoes are versatile enough to handle all those scenarios and then some. They do a good job regulating heat and temp, for a skate-style shoe that is, and yes they are solid enough to not soak or freeze your feet if they’re you’re only pair of riding shoes in the winter months. Of course, if you live somewhere truly cold or saturated, you’re well aware that you’d benefit most from specific winter shoes, but for those in mild climates or who don’t spend months riding in Arctic rivers, these strike a nice balance.

When it comes to comfort and fit, the Endura Hummvee Clipless MTB shoes stand out. They fit our testers well, both Robert and Drew fit in the size 10.5 well and found them true to size. The laces string up nicely and the Velcro strap at the top helps snug the shoe for that list bit of oomph needed when you’re pulling up hard.

Endura Hummvee Clipless Shoe Review

Speaking of comfort, the Hummvee has a softer-than-most feel underfoot. Both testers agreed that the softer shank had pros and cons. Hike-a-bike and walking back up to session features was more enjoyable as the shoes felt less like bike shoes than others. Similarly, we could feel the shoes, and our feet, flexing around the pedal during hard compressions like berms or landing drops. Similarly, extended hard efforts on the pedals resulted in some foot flex as the pedals flexed more than other shoes we’ve been riding lately.

While some riders may be searching for that extra “feel” from a clipless shoe, it was just enough flex that Drew felt a bit of foot fatigue in the arch in certain types of descents that were very long or chattery. If you’re a rider who likes a stiff platform, whether it be for big compressions or maximizing pedaling efficiency, these may not be the best option for you.

The Wolf’s Last Word

The Endura Hummvee Clipless MTB shoes, polarizing as they may be for some, had our crew pretty pleased overall. We would really love the shoes if they were a bit stiff underfoot, but we also appreciate that Endura has come to market with a product offering that’s not the same as everyone else. We are positive there are riders out there who don’t want a shoe as stiff as the Fox Union, and for them, this would be a great clipless mountain bike shoe to consider. We really like the looks, comfort, fit and durability of these shoes and overall give Endura a thumbs up for the Hummvee Clipless shoes.
