Welcome to our first Loam Wolf Edition bike build! Long before we worked in the bicycle industry, we enjoyed customizing bikes and making them our own. With this program we’re seeking to bring a wolfy edge to some of the coolest bikes on the market, and then give them away to our awesome customers.
Our first bike, Boots Electric, is a neon dream we copped from the gracious crew over at Scott USA. Sporting a sexy carbon frame and 160mm of front and rear travel, we knew this versatile all mountain bike would be a solid choice for our first build.
The drivetrain remains largely OE on the Genius. A SRAM GX1 drivetrain balances affordability and performance. Stopping power is handled by Shimano’s SLX brakes, which we’re big fans of. One thing we were excited to replace however, were the Plus size tires. With these Loam Wolf Edition bikes, we strive to build machines that look good and ride the way we’d want our own bikes to ride. Our good friends at Schwalbe North America came through with some 2.6-inch Nobby Nic tires. This helped drop a bit of weight. It should also make the bike a bit snappier and more playful.
In our pursuit to create a lust worthy machine, we contacted the crew at Deity Components for the ultimate in style and performance. We got some of their Bladerunner pedals as they’re old favorites of ours. The new Copperhead stem and Blacklabel bars matched perfectly with the Speedtrap saddle and gave the blue color of the frame a little more pop.
Our final, and most challenging step was to create the custom graphics. We got in touch with the guys over at Stikrd, as they’re like the Factory Effex of the mountain bike world. They’ve got an arsenal of bike decals ready to roll, but had yet to work with Scott. It was a bit time consuming and took a lot of patience but we finally nailed the colors and graphics. Without the guys at Stikrd, this bike would just look like a stock bike that we put new bars on. It was tempting to use all their design and printing capabilities to go all out, but we decided less is more. The subtle changes over the stock graphics don’t scream look at me, but still offer plenty to talk about. It’s been hard not taking this fresh bike out in the dirt for a “test rip” but we’re going to leave that honor for the new owner. We just hope they let us know how sweet it rides!
