INSTINCT POWERPLAY SL UPDATE

FIRMWARE UPDATE FOR MORE POWER

September 17, 2025

Rocky Mountain is releasing a firmware update for the Instinct Powerplay SL’s Dyname-S4 Lite motor. The result: 27% more power and an even better riding experience.

More torque, more peak power

With this firmware update, the Instinct Powerplay SL’s motor power increases from 65 Nm / 550 watts up to 75 Nm / 700 watts peak power.

This places the Instinct SL even firmly in between lightweight but less powerful light EMTBs and heavier full-power bikes. Weighing just under 20 kg, the Instinct Powerplay SL has already impressed in several tests with its nimble handling combined with the efficiency and performance of a full-power drive. The Dyname S4 Lite update makes this unique character stand out even more.

Riders who take full advantage of the additional power will have to expect a slight reduction in range–those who don’t want to compromise on range can select the appropriate setting on the Jumbotron display and ride without any disadvantages.

40 years of experience behind it

This update was designed and tested on the legendary North Shore trails in Vancouver, B.C. – home to Rocky Mountain for 40 years. It’s the heart of mountain biking, where the Rocky Mountain R&D team rides every day to see firsthand which developments actually improve biking. Tom Ferenc, R&D director at Rocky Mountain, says of the Instinct PP SL: “The increased support, torque and power allows me to ride the technical terrain that would have me reaching for a full power option. But now with the added benefits of a lighter, more dynamic bike I’m riding the Instinct PP SL more often than not.”

Update at your dealer – riders should be riding

The update will be available exclusively from authorized Rocky Mountain dealers starting September 12. True to our motto: Love the Ride – we’ll take care of the rest.

Next Update already in the works

The next major firmware upgrade is already set for December – this time for the Full Power Dyname 4.0 motor. Like always, this evolution comes straight out of Rocky Mountain’s ongoing trail-driven development process – the very thing that’s defined us from the start.
