ABOUT THE BIKESTOW FLIP
BikeStow designed the Flip to be a versatile freestanding bicycle storage device for any indoor space. Constructed from durable Birch plywood, the Flip Bike Stand weighs 4.8kg and supports bikes and eBikes up to 25kg. Wheels on the base allow for the bike to be maneuvered while still in the stand, making for easy arrangement and nesting close together.
The adjustable design of the BikeStow Flip bike stand allows for a bike of any size to be stored securely in a vertical or horizontal orientation. This includes a wheel size range from 26” to 29”, with a max tire size of 3”. For uniquely sized or shaped bikes, BikeStow offers a free custom fixture to ensure compatibility. A strap for the front wheel is included – made in partnership with Restrap – to secure the front wheel straight for easier handling.
BikeStow manufactures the Flip in the UK and sells them from their webstore. International shipping is available, with pricing at £129 / $175 / €159, including duties but exceeding shipping costs.
THE DIRT
With limited space and too many bikes, I’ve found myself seeking improved storage solutions to keep the test fleet organized neatly. When I spotted BikeStow’s new Flip Bike Stand, I was immediately interested. Could this be the answer to my bike storage prayers?
I received four Flip stands for testing, aiming to free up space in my bike room and assess their nesting capability. Getting them set up out the box was simple and fast, and within 15 minutes I had all four mounted up and ready to roll. Folding them for storage takes mere seconds, and their packability is impressive considering their deployed robustness.
Loading and unloading bikes from the BikeStow Flip Stand is remarkably easy. Simply roll a bike backwards towards the stand, and the rear wheel gets trapped in place. The adjustable metal tire trap is smooth and easily adjusted for a perfect fit. From there, rocking the bike into a vertical position is quite easy – a 60kg friend even verified this with my 25kg eBike. Adjusting the rear sliding seat post support effortlessly positions the bike at a preferred angle, and I never worried about it falling. The stands’ stability is impressive, holding steady throughout testing.
Nesting multiple BikeStow Flip Bike Stands closely requires careful attention, as handlebars and brake hoses can easily tangle. Similarly, the wheels extend wider than the base, occasionally leading to them becoming trapped when attempting to roll out a middle bike in a row. The front wheel strap simplifies things, especially when loosened to allow slight front-end rotation. Despite potential bike tangling, the BikeStow Flip stands make achieving a neat and safe arrangement of bikes in tight spaces considerably easier than most other methods I’ve tried.
I regularly used the BikeStow Flip stand to hold bikes steady horizontally for maintenance tasks like brake bleeding and cockpit adjustments. While its versatility and practicality may appeal to certain cyclists, it doesn’t fully replace a conventional bike workstand for many tasks. For a period of time I tied two of the Flip stands down in the rear of my van to serve as bike traps for travel, and though this isn’t officially recommended, they did the job well.
The Wolf’s Last Word
For bike storage with limited space, the BikeStow Flip bike stand is highly useful and well executed. The units are fairly expensive, but made to last with high quality materials, and serve their purpose exceptionally well. Combined with its additional functionality as a maintenance stand, it’s clear BikeStow has done a stellar job with the Flip. ![]()
