ABOUT THE FLEX SLIM HELMET MOUNT
This universal action camera mount has a very efficient profile. There is enough surface area for a secure fit, without being overly bulky. At .47inches by 5.12 inches (1.2cm x 13cm), it is meant to spread the camera’s weight across a larger distance than the traditional square mounts, while simultaneously being compatible with the majority of helmet models.
Inside the FLEX Slim Mount there is a steel core, which acts as the mount’s internal skeleton. This core is coated in a soft vibration-dampening silicone that remains flexible when cured. The mounting tabs for your camera or accessories are made from an injection-moulded piece of polycarbonate. Attaching the mounting tabs to the silicon structure are four stainless steel screws. On the base of the mount, there is a strip of 3M VHB Tape, the same found across nearly all high-quality POV mounts.

The advertised mounting location is on the chin of full-face helmets for MTB, MX and street motorbikes. Really, the MotoRadds mount will fit any helmet that has a chin bar. While that is the focused mounting location, you can put this anywhere you can think of, allowing your creativity to drive the shot without being limited by gear. In the box you get a small extension piece with a thumbscrew, as well as an alcohol prep pad.
MotoRadds also has their Flex Classic mount. This is more of the traditional style, but still with a flexible main structure allowing for wide compatibility. This is a great option for under the visor locations if you have room, or even somewhere on your bike for a unique angle.
At $32.95, the MotoRadds FLEX Slim mount is not cheap, but neither is replacing a lost action camera…

THE DIRT
The MotoRadds FLEX Slim mount is a fantastic product. It is simple, intuitive, and does a killer job. I have had plenty of cheap mounts fail on me, leaving me searching the bushes for my action camera, cursing with every branch moved. While the name brand mounts from DJI, Insta360 and GoPro all do work well, they mostly lack in compatibility for every unique helmet design. Brands such as Chin Mounts have popped up and have gained popularity quite fast, but they are limited to custom mounts for each helmet. This leaves some helmets out in the cold, waiting for them to create the custom-fitting mount.
The MotoRadds product line aims to solve that. The fact they have built in a steel frame under the silicon exterior is super smart, and it works very well. You can shape the material to follow the curves of your helmet with relative ease. If you bend it too far, you can just bend it back. It’s that simple. By bending the mount’s shape, it ensures that the 3M tape stays in contact with the helmet’s surface. On more extreme angles, if there was no internal structure then the mount would be fighting itself to hold the helmets shape, which would ultimately cause the sticky portion to fail earlier. MotoRadds hopes the steel core will prevent that, and it seems to do the trick well.

I have had the MotoRadds FLEX Slim mounts on three different helmets in various locations, with no issues to report. I have found these to be some of the best mounts I have used. The large total surface area in contact with the helmet and how much you can manipulate the shape to fit your exact needs means they stay put without concern. Once mounted, these mounts are super secure, and I have never once wondered about the product’s integrity. I love how low profile the mounts are, too. Having the mount tabs directly attached to the main body makes a huge difference in how it looks and the angles you can achieve for your ideal setup.
While they are not marketed to be used under your visor, they can work very well for this, too. I also used this mount on a half shell, putting tons of ride time on it at our latest SL eMTB shootout. Wearing a chest mount 10 hours a day for 10 days is not that pleasant, so getting the camera up on the helmet was a big win. While you are limited to that angle, I think that it is plenty acceptable in today’s world of fast content. Many of the top YouTube MTB creators are using an under-peak mount on their half shells.
Their flexible classic mount is another great option to have on hand. This is made for hard mounting on different locations on your bike or vehicle. I used it to set up a shot under the downtube and on the back of a seat tube, areas where a clamp just would not work for what I was looking to achieve. That leads me into my final thought here – reusing the mounts. You can easily order the 3M VHB tape to have spare sections with you on trips, or if you want to use the mount in a one-off location you can do so easily. It is not the easiest to remove, which left me feeling confident in the product staying put, but it was not impossible. Direct sun or a heat gun makes a big difference in ease of removal.
HOW DOES IT COMPARE?
I think the best direct comparison are from the brand Chin Mounts. These are custom 3D-printed mounts that are specific to each helmet shape. While they fit great, if you have a brand-new helmet you will need to wait until their team can get one ready. And if you change helmets, you need a new mount, too. They have a huge library of fit options, but it is not a complete list, whereas the MotoRadds mount works with any helmet. I also like the way the longer profile spreads out the weight on the MotoRadds mount vs the Chin Mount. On all three Chin Mounts I have had, there has been a slight amount of movement in the mount, not enough to cause any issues with video stabilization but enough that I did think about when/if the mount was going to fail. Unlike the Chin Mount, you do not need an additional piece to mount your camera as the tabs are fixed directly on the flexible body. This not only makes it lower profile, but one less thing to remember when packing for a trip.
The Wolf’s Last Word
The MotoRadds FLEX Slim universal flexible motorcycle helmet chin mount is a super effective and useful mount for any action camera on the market. You would be hard pressed to find a helmet this would not be compatible with, and it’s damn effective, too. ![]()
