DOCUMENTARY: THE JOURNEY

THE UNTOLD STORY OF TREK

June 24, 2026

Trek Bicycle released The Journey: The Untold Story of Trek, a new documentary celebrating the company’s 50th anniversary and the people, ideas, risks, and tensions that shaped its earliest years.

The Journey returns to Trek’s roots through a deeply personal conversation between John Burke and Trek co-founder Bevil Hogg, who helped launch the company alongside John’s father, Dick Burke.

Told through archival footage, personal reflection, and a return to Trek’s original red barn in Waterloo, Wisconsin, the documentary traces Trek’s path from a bold idea to a defining force in cycling. It explores the company’s earliest days, from importing French bicycles and failed retail experiments to handmade steel frames, touring bikes, aluminum innovation, and the creative tension between art, product, and business.

At the center of the film is the partnership between Dick Burke and Bevil Hogg, two very different people whose shared belief in bikes helped set Trek in motion. Hogg brought a deep appreciation for product design, craftsmanship, and the beauty of the bicycle. Burke brought business instinct, conviction, and the willingness to bet on an idea before the path was clear. Together, they created the foundation for what Trek would become.

While The Journey looks back on Trek’s first 50 years, the film also points forward. It closes with a challenge to stay ahead of change, invest in good people, and lead by example.
