ABOUT THE EVOC HYDRO PRO ULTRA 1.5 + 1.5L BLADDER
The Evoc Pro Ultra is part of Evoc’s Hydration Vest lineup, meaning it is smaller, lighter, and meant to sit more closely against your back than a traditional hydration pack. The Pro Ultra is the smallest of Evoc’s four vests in their lineup, pairing a 1.5L bladder with a separate 1.5L storage compartment. It has two zippered back pockets: one for the bladder and one for whatever else you want to carry. The storage pocket also features a key clip to keep your keys secure and prevent losing them on the trail.
The back features a reflective stripe for added visibility, and the breathable, vented material for help to keep air flowing. The front has two mesh breast pockets for better ventilation and accessibility, with no zips. The bladder has a magnetic clip to secure the straw to the left arm strap.
Evoc offers the Hydro Pro Ultra hydration vest in a choice of black or sand, with a retail price of $140.

THE DIRT
I’ve been riding with Evoc’s larger Pro 3L hydration vest for about a year, so I went into testing the Hydro Pro Ultra with a good idea of what to expect. The main difference is its smaller footprint, giving a slimmer and lighter overall setup. The fit is the same across all their vests, with the adjustment straps easy to use and very effective at tailoring the fit and keeping it secure.
The bladder is identical to all of Evoc’s other packs, but I do like that this one has its own compartment and zipper in the bag. The roll top and straw don’t leak, and the mouthpiece has a good reliable shut-off. The straw magnet is nice, but the magnet sits a little high on my small back, making retrieval tricky at times. The separate storage compartment is easy to access, but its limited capacity means it’s best suited to a few snacks and small spares. Those looking for the option for a jacket or larger tool storage will be better suited to a bigger bag.
The fit and finish are great, and I love how snugly the bag sits against my back without bouncing around. Its smaller footprint helps keep it feeling secure without adding unnecessary bulk. I especially like the smooth finish on the backside of the bag, as it’s easy to clean after those muddy days here in the PNW. Water and mud tend to bead off, but the dirt that does stick is easy to wipe off with a rag.
The mesh across the back panel and shoulder straps breathes well, and I haven’t experienced any noticeable chafing or discomfort during testing. The front mesh pockets are convenient for grabbing snacks on the go, but I still prefer the zippered pockets on my Pro 3L for smaller items I don’t want to risk losing.
The Wolf’s Last Word
I’m a fan of Evoc’s vest-style hydration packs, and the Hydro Pro Ultra is a solid option for those who prioritize fit and comfort above everything. My main complaints are its limited storage and open mesh pockets, but that isn’t the bag’s fault. Riders who need room for a jacket or larger tools will be better served by a bigger pack, but those looking to carry water and a few snacks without the bulk of a larger pack will find the Hydro Pro Ultra a great fit. ![]()
