We’re not sure there’s been a disruptive force in the mountain bike industry as big as Amflow since the suspension fork, if even that! Since blowing the pedals off every other eMTB drive unit and electronics suite when they came out less than two years, the Amflow brand and their Avinox drive unit went from being non-existent to being THE system to have. Amflow’s first eMTB – the PL Carbon – was pounds lighter, thousands cheaper, and so much more powerful than anything on the market when it launched. And while there was plenty of praise and desire from the consumers, it seems some product testers felt there was still something left to be desired in terms of all-out performance from the newcomer.

The new Amflow PR is not the answer to those critical reviews – that’s the soon-to-be-reviewed Amflow PX Carbon Pro. Instead, the PR (the R stands for removable battery) is Amflow’s attempt to offer an even more affordable eMTB for the masses, answering the demand for an Avinox-equipped bike with a removable battery in the process.

For the second generation of their eMTB line, Avinox have squeezed even more power out of both the M2 and M2S drive unit, and Amflow has added choices in their range to suit riders with a wide range of budgets, including the entry-level bike in our 2026 eMTB Shootout – the Amflow PR, with a carbon frame and impressive $4,999 price tag.

How does the Avinox M2-equipped Amflow PR stack up against 14 of the hottest eMTBs on the market in 2026? We were excited to hit the trails around Santa Fe, New Mexico, to find out.

These intensive group reviews would not be possible without some amazing partners. Their support ensures our entire crew can ride all these bikes on a variety of terrain to establish real-world data for our audience.

Fox Racing kept the team warm during the odd storm, comfortable on hot days, and ensured we were always looking cool while staying protected.

Schwalbe Tires provided control tires with amazing and predictable performance, and 2 weeks of testing across the 15 test eMTBs with zero flat tires.

We’d also like to thank our destination hosts. We stayed at Glorieta Adventure Camps just outside Santa Fe, New Mexico and we were supported by Sante Fe City and Santa Fe County and their Tourism Dept. Thanks for the hospitality, and you should definitely get down there for yourself!

AMFLOW PR SPECS OVERVIEW

The disruptive Amflow PR brings big power and impressive adjustability at an aggressive price point. The 6.39lb (2.9kg) carbon fiber frame houses the Avinox M2 drive unit on the base-level build, and the Avinox M2S on the PR Pro. With 150mm rear travel using a Horst Link suspension system and MX wheels as standard, this highly adaptable bike can be set up with 40 different geometry configurations and will accept a 29” rear wheel.

AVINOX M2 AND M2S EBIKE SYSTEM SPECS

The second generation of Avinox drive units features two distinct models: the M2 (tested), or the M2S. These differ slightly in their architecture, power and torque, giving a budget and premium offering, respectively.

The Avinox M2 featured on the Amflow PR weighs 5.84 lbs (2.65kg) and produces 1100W Peak Power with 125Nm maximum torque.

The Avinox M2S featured on the Amflow PR Pro weighs less at 5.71 lbs (2.59kg), yet delivers up to 1500W Peak Power and 150Nm maximum torque.

Both of these drive units are powered by the removable 800Wh internal battery, offering the possibility to hot-swap the batteries or charge them off the bike. The Avinox RS800 battery weighs in at 8.8lbs (4kg). There is no Avinox Range Extender available currently, however the Avinox RS600 battery can be mounted to the frame to provide a huge 1400Wh total battery capacity for riders looking to cover serious ground without range anxiety.

The Amflow PR ships with the 4A standard Avinox charger, whereas the PR Pro receives the 12A fast charger. Charging times from 0-100% are around 6 hours and 2hrs 25 minutes, respectively. The fast charger offers the ability to go from 0-80% in just 1hr 36 minutes, opening up possibilities.

Using the Avinox Ride app, the rider can connect to the bike to tune the power modes and adjust the display screens. The touchscreen display can provide turn-by-turn navigation offline thanks to the built-in GPS. Also built in are security features like remote locking and Apple Find My.

AMFLOW PR GEOMETRY

Amflow gave the PR adjustability in the headset, rocker link, and Horst link, resulting in 40 different geometry configurations. The standard geometry is middle-of-the-road and likely to please many riders, with our 5'10" to 6'2" (178cm to 189cm) test crew feeling comfortable.

AMFLOW PR BUILD OPTIONS

Amflow offers the PR in a choice of two build specs: the PR at $4,999 or the PR Pro at $6,799. These share the same carbon frame, but differ in their drive unit and build specs.

The Amflow PR tested featured an entry-level build kit with the Avinox M2 drive unit, and surprised us with its solid performance. There is a Fox AWL HD Sport fork and custom-tuned Fox Float Rhythm rear shock. The Tektro TKD173 brakes offered reasonable stopping power with the 203mm rotors. We believe that heavier or harder-charging riders will benefit from a more aggressive brake pad compound.

Impressive at this price point, a SRAM S1000 wireless T-Type drivetrain offered stellar shifting performance, wired into the Avinox system to unlock the SmoothShift function, which enables gear changes without pedaling.

The wheels are Amflow's XMA-30, with a 30mm alloy rim laced to sealed-bearing hubs. These are wrapped in a Maxxis Assegai EXO+ and DHR 2 Double Down tire combination as standard, which is a reasonable spec for the PR's intentions. As with all of the bikes in our 2026 eMTB Shootout, these were replaced with a Schwalbe Tacky Chan Gravity Pro and Magic Mary Gravity Pro tire combination.

The Amflow PR in size large weighed 52.1 lbs (23.6 kg) with our Schwalbe Gravity casing control tires.

AVINOX M2 DRIVE UNIT PERFORMANCE

  • Pure Power: It doesn’t take a rocket surgeon to understand that when it comes to flat-out power, the Avinox system is currently the king of the hill. Even in the more affordable M2 guise fitted on the entry-level PR, the power is plentiful and will leave just about anything in the dust…If blasting up fire roads is your thing. When it comes to slowing down the pace, applying short bursts of power for technical climbs, or accelerating out of switchbacks, the Avinox unit is a notch above. Instant response, a wide range of supported cadence, and its traction control make it a really special unit.
  • Control: As we briefly mentioned above, the Avinox M2 and M2S are awesome eBike drive units. Our entire team found that we tuned all our bikes down, as the power was just too much for the technical climbing and the riding experiences that we were after. With the power tuned down, we had much better control of the acceleration, overrun, and touchiness of the system.
  • Tunability: Avinox’s App and even more so their touchscreen and tunability without the need of the App, are above the rest. It allowed us to quickly tune the settings, hypothesize what sort of blend between Torque and Wattage would make certain technical climbs more achievable, and deliver the required tune to optimize the battery range for big days. We’re big fans of the ecosystem.
  • Perceived Efficiency: It may not be the absolute most efficient system, but it’s not terrible, so long as you aren’t in its full power Turbo Boost mode. Check out our unofficial efficiency test here. It was competitive with other drive units, and when we leveled out the power to 100Nm and 750W, it was nearly as efficient as the Bosch Performance Line CX in our testing.
  • Drive Unit Noise: Another standout feature of the Avinox unit is the quiet operation of the system. It’s a pleasant tone when climbing, quieter than just about everything else out there on the way up. Our drive units were also rattle-free on the way down.
  • Ecosystem: To be expected from a tech brand, the Avinox ecosystem was the team’s favorite overall in this year’s shootout. We especially love the touchscreen, ease of tuning, and the simple and effective bar controls for toggling on the fly.

AMFLOW PR CLIMBING PERFORMANCE

Climbing the Amflow PR is a pleasant experience overall. If you don’t quite jive with the geometry, chances are you can make one of the 40 possible configurations right for your body type and terrain. Even so, we rode the bike in the stock configuration primarily, and got along just fine on the varied terrain of New Mexico, from the high desert up to the 10,000-foot alpine singletrack.

The suspension does not have a ton of adjustability, so you will be relying mostly on air pressure and volume reducers to get you the right suppleness and progressivity. Our riders settled on a happy compromise of characteristics fairly quickly.

When it comes to climbing technical terrain, the Avinox M2 drive unit is one of the most capable thanks to its quick responsiveness and torque across a wide range of cadences. Climbing this bike on smooth fire roads or flowy singletracks was like a cheat code, as it zipped up trails with effortless ease.

AMFLOW PR DESCENDING PERFORMANCE

The PR is a well-rounded and comfortable bike for most riders in our test group. While we could discern differences in ride characteristics and quality due to its lower-tier suspension spec, no riders were forced to dismount or unable to ride any portion of the trail on this bike. As the most affordable bike in this year’s group test, that was something we were happy about. Our team loves affordable bikes!

When it came time to drop into the downhill test tracks for our eMTB Shootout, the Amflow PR was an capable bike, but it didn’t blow us away. We are not saying that it’s not the best just because it doesn’t have Fox Factory suspension, as there is a well-defined point of diminishing returns. However, the same can be said at the opposite end of the spectrum, and the Fox AWL fork was a drawback for some testers more than others. Similarly, the rear shock was sufficient, but didn’t wow anyone.

We understand concessions are always made to achieve price points, and believe an Avinox M2-equipped bike with a removable 800Wh battery for under $5,000 is a compelling product. The impressive price-to-spec was one reason we opted for this model over the higher-spec’d model. The PR Carbon Pro has a notably better suspension package, but retails for $6,799, which is over our $6,000 price cut-off for the Budget Category in this year’s shootout.

There wasn’t any area that the Amflow PR Carbon stood out above the rest, but it was consistently ready for whatever we asked of it. Some riders noted this eBike felt a bit heavy in the front end, while others did not make any note of this. Riders all have different dimensions and riding styles, so we’ll chalk it up to rider dimensions and the effects of their weight distribution. Even so, the riders who did note the weight were able to adapt and didn’t feel it was a major hindrance. Other riders really enjoyed the playful and lively feel of the PR Carbon.

On this specific build, the suspension was the common factor that harder-charging riders talked about. While it’s not needed right away, we agreed that a relatively simple and affordable damper swap in the Fox fork and a Fox Float X or Marzocchi Bomber Air shock upgrade would take this bike to another level, and likely still keep you under $6,000. If you’re not pushing the limits of your current bike’s capabilities, this is likely not even going to be an issue. Still, it was something we felt worth mentioning.

The Wolf’s Last Word

If we move away from the technicalities of spec and focus on the ride characteristics, the Amflow PR is an eBike that gets the job done, without any polarizing traits. Among the 15 other eMTBs it blends in, and that’s not entirely a bad thing. If a rider wants to dial in the bike for their preferences, the geometry can easily be adapted to suit their terrain, although it sits squarely in the safe zone for a do-it-all trail eMTB.

For aggressive shredders, some simple suspension upgrades will increase the capabilities on high-speed and chunky descents, while still keeping the bike well under the price of other eMTBs. And that’s with the benefit of an Avinox M2 system and removable battery.

WHO SHOULD BUY THE AMFLOW PR?

A rider who is willing to try a newer brand with a smaller dealer support network who are offering a stellar deal on state-of-the-art technology and a top-performing drive unit. Although it is too early to establish the long-term durability, it seems that both Amflow and Avinox are officially here to stay.

If you’re looking to have the cutting-edge electronics, the powerful M2 drive unit, and a capable eMTB that will do everything you need for your trail riding adventures, the Amflow PR is ready to go and will give you a great platform to upgrade as you go.
