AVENTON UPS THE ANTE WITH THE CURRENT LTD.

Aventon, a leader in accessible ebike innovation, today announced the launch of the Current LTD, a limited edition of its full-suspension electric mountain bike (eMTB) platform. Produced in a run of just 99 units worldwide, each bike is individually numbered and finished exclusively in a bright Magma colorway. The Current LTD pairs the same powerful Aventon Ultro X mid-drive motor and ACU Smart Bike ecosystem found across the entire Current line with a fully upgraded, top-tier component package.

WHAT “NOTHING HELD BACK” DELIVERS

The build starts with top-tier RockShox suspension, pairing a Lyrik Ultimate fork with a Super Deluxe Ultimate shock. The drivetrain is SRAM X0 Transmission, and SRAM Maven Ultimate brakes provide unrivaled stopping power. Rolling stock gets the same treatment: Crankbrothers Synthesis Alloy 2 wheels bring front- and rear-specific tuning for grip and compliance on the trail, while Industry Nine 1/1 hubs add quick engagement and stability. A Truvativ Descendant carbon handlebar, Fizik Aidon saddle, and RockShox Reverb AXS dropper complete the “nothing to upgrade” build. Powering it all is the same 120Nm Ultro X motor and ACU smart platform found across the Current line, with GPS anti-theft, four adjustable Ride Tune modes, Airtime tracker, and Wheel Lift Control technology.

The Current LTD is a Class 1 e-bike, convertible to Class 3, and is UL 2849 and UL 2271 certified for battery and motor safety.

THE WOLF’S FIRST IMPRESSION

Earlier this year, most of our crew threw our legs over the Aventon Current as part of our Full-Power eMTB Shootout. For that project, we had the Current EXP build which was a modestly spec’d bike. For our crew and the trails we were testing on, the spec just wasn’t up to snuff. Many of our crew all agreed that the Current frame had solid bones, but we wanted a spec better suited for aggressive riding and more technical terrain.

The Current LTD has just the spec we were looking for. With the new MY27 Ultimate level Rockshox Lyrik and Super Deluxe, the Current LTD begs to be ridden hard and sent deep into the abyss. Our time was short on the LTD build, but with the suspension upgrade over the EXP, confidence in the bike was high. I (Sourpatch) was able to get a couple Wanoga laps in, which features a couple fairly raw, handbuilt trails that have seen better days. Within in half a lap, I was charging through knee deep braking bumps and drifting into corners. Corner traction was plentiful now having a set-up that promoted a more aggressive stance on the bike. Evening sending a few of the ski jumps into said braking bumps were eaten up fairly well. The Current LTD is now a Current for more experienced riders looking to charge their favorite trails. It’s a pity that this spec is limited to the 99 Limited Edition units, but hopefully these see enough interest that Aventon will off an Ultimate level package as a standard option. Conceding the drivetrain spec to a lower level SRAM Transmission or XT Di2 set-up to slightly lower the cost could prove to be a solid path as well.
