DERRICK CROCKER SHOOTS 2025 RAMPAGE
A MOTO PHOTOGRAPHER CAPTURES HIS FIRST, RED BULL RAMPAGE
October 24, 2025
What is photographing Red Bull Rampage like coming from a supercross/motocross photographer?
Well let me give you my first hand expierience.
For all those in the MTB community who don’t know me, let me introduce myself. My name is Derrick Crocker (aka Dncphotos). I was given the wonderful opportunity to take a trip out to Utah to photograph my first major MTB event, and it just so happens to be probably the gnarliest event of them all. I had no idea what to expect, but I did know it was gonna be a long week.
In supercross and motocross, I’m used to flying in for about two days and just being surrounded by nonstop action and shooting about 12,000 photos. Rampage was a different story, I knew that if I wanted to get good shots that i was gonna have to be in the right place at the right time. Knowing that, I decided to go out to Utah for all 7 days of practice to maximize my chances of coming home with a few good shots. Ultimately it was a huge grind traversing the mountain with all my camera gear from sun up to sun down for 7 days straight.

Do I regret my decision? Absolutely not, I met so many wonderful photographers. I also got to witness some of the gnarliest athletes I’ve ever seen do some incredibly mind boggling stuff. If I had to compare photographing moto to MTB I would say that shooting MTB definitely requires more planning and paying attention to which riders are going where, becuase they don’t practice their lines over and over all day long. A rider may try one crazy thing in practice and if you’re in the wrong spot you will most likely miss that moment.
By the end of the trip I was definitely beat, but I would absolutely do it again next year and possibly some other big MTB events.
Again, I would like to thank everyone over at The Loam Wolf for the opportunity, and who knows, maybe you’ll see me at another event one day!
