The new Ari Timp Peak 2.0 is being billed as “your ebike, your way”, with plentiful adjustability built in to tailor the characteristics of this eMTB to each rider’s preferences. Featuring the Bosch CX Gen 5 drive unit and a host of updates throughout, Ari has pushed the performance of the Timp Peak platform to the next level.

In this Tech Check feature made in partnership with Ari Bikes, we’re going to share all about this new long travel electric mountain bike, and give our initial impressions on how it performs and compares to the original.

As with all of our Tech Check features, this is not intended to be an official review or endorsement of the new Ari Timp Peak 2.0. Instead, we hope to educate our audience on this new eMTB, and share our initial ride impressions after our first trail time. We’ll follow up with a long-term review, and you will also find the Ari Timp Peak 2.0 in our upcoming 2025 eMTB Shootout.

BOSCH!

For the new Timp Peak 2.0, Ari shifted to the Bosch CX Gen 5 system, which can be powered by a choice of the 800Wh or 600Wh internal and removable batteries. With the PowerMore range extender, capacity can be boosted a further 250Wh. Ari offers the customer the choice of batteries at the point of purchase, letting you decide between maximizing range or saving 2.2lbs for more agile handling. Ari reckons the handling with the 800Wh battery may just surprise you though, and so far we’ve been quite happy with it.

TETRALINK SUSPENSION

The Timp Peak 2.0 continues to use Ari’s Tetralink four bar suspension design for this Cleancast carbon fiber frame, delivering 170mm rear wheel travel with revised kinematics to improve downhill capabilities. They used a non-trunnion shock to allow the shock to perform more smoothly under intense side loading.

The Leverage Ratio progression is increased for improved big hit capabilities, making the rear end well suited to a high volume air shock or coil shock. The Anti Rise (braking character) is super low at around 40%, which Ari chose in a bid to maintain traction and comfort whether on or off the brakes. Anti Squat (pedaling character) sits at 100% to offer a solid balance of pedaling support and traction.

GEOMETRY AND ADAPTABILITY

For the new Timp Peak 2.0, Ari worked to add adaptability to the geometry throughout to live up to the “your ebike, your way” mentality.

With flip chips at the horst pivot and rocker link, the Timp Peak 2.0 offers four-way adjustability to tweak the chainstay, bb height and head tube angle.

The head angle goes plus or minus 0.4 degrees of a nominal 64 degrees; the chainstays can be 437mm or 443mm, and the bb height is a nominal 346mm.

Higher stack heights have been used across the small to xl size range to boost descending confidence. And the effective seat tube angle is slightly steeper too – sitting around 78 degrees – to put the rider in a central climbing position to winch up steep terrain.

READY TO SHRED

Ari wanted the new Timp Peak 2.0 to be bulletproof, offering peace of mind that it can be rallied with little consideration to their team and customers alike. There’s a burly shuttle guard on the downtube; strong fiber-reinforced nylon motor cover, and generous chain slap protection.

The Timp Peak 2.0 frame was tested to their most demanding levels yet, and they back this frame with their lifetime warranty. This warranty can even be transferred to the second owner, highlighting Ari’s confidence.

Details are well covered with tube-in-tube internal cable routing to keep rattles to a minimum. The front triangles all feature room for a large water bottle, as well as having provisions for an accessory mount under the top tube.

SPECS

Ari Bikes leverages their direct-to-consumer model to offer a customized bike for every rider, with their 23-point custom setup allowing for tweaks to dropper and cockpit for the best rider fit.

The Timp Peak 2.0 will be offered in a choice of three builds from $6,699 to $8,999, as well as a $5,199 frame set with the drive unit, 800Wh bosch battery and RockShox Vivid Air Ultimate. All of these are available with frames in the black Charcoal Black or Amethyst Blue colorways.

We were sent the Elite build to test, retailing for $7,999. It features the Ultimate-level RockShox Zeb and Vivid Air suspension; SRAM GX AXS T-Type drivetrain, and the excellent TRP EVO PRO brakes. There’s a set of Crankbrothers Synthesis Alloy V2 wheels, which Ari supplied wrapped in full DH-spec Maxxis Highroller 3’s for our local rocky and sandy trails.

FIRST IMPRESSION OF THE TIMP PEAK 2.0

As with most of our Tech Check features, this is just an initial impression of the character of the new Ari Timp Peak 2.0, and not intended to be an official review or endorsement of its durability and performance. We’ll be logging many more miles on this eMTB for our upcoming eMTB Shootout, so stay tuned for that where we’ll be able to share how it stacks up against the competitors.

We love the controlled power delivery of the new Bosch CX Gen 5 eMTB system. It responds to rider input with excellent reactivity, which is great for tech climbs and low traction conditions. The noise on the way up is reduced, and it runs silently on the way down, which contributed to an overall dialed ride on the Ari Timp Peak 2.0. A quiet bike is a happy bike, and the Ari ran extremely quietly aside from the rear brake hose occasionally rattling. We’ve managed to solve this already, so we’re not concerned it’ll cause further issues.

Initial impressions are of a very comfortable and planted descending machine, which still retains some of the poppy and lively character of the original Timp Peak. That said, it did feel a little less agile than the Shimano-equipped original. We had the 800Wh battery fitted which adds weight, as well as dual downhill casing tires and only a quick initial suspension setup. We’re certainly not concerned about the fun factor on this eBike, but have already begun to appreciate its more planted and plush nature for our local rock-infested terrain.

We’ve got a 600Wh battery on the way and intend to ride the living hell out of this eBike and experiment with suspension setup and geometry flip chips to see exactly what the Timp Peak 2.0 can be. For now, the initial impressions are positive, and it certainly feels like an eBike that’s going to stack up well against the competition in our upcoming eMTB Shootout.
