Giveaway II
Custom TLW Marin Wolf Ridge
The Witch Hunter
Since our last giveaway bike build we’ve been working hard to step up the game and offer an even more radical bike. If you’ve ever built a new bike, you know the journey to completion is addicting. Even if it’s more expensive than buying an off-the-shelf bike, nothing beats a custom build.
After spending nearly a year riding a Wolf Ridge we knew we wanted to build a Wolf Ridge in our own style to give away to one of our awesome fans. We wanted to share the incredible ride quality of the bike but welcomed the challenge of making such a visually polarizing bike look bad ass. The stress was real as we sought to accentuate the right lines while keeping the look both classy and edgy.
Paint:
The Witch Hunter’s metamorphosis began in the Made Rad by Tony paint chamber. While our last bike had vinyl graphics, we went all out on the Witch Hunter with a completely custom paint job that we spared no expense on. Tony Baumann has been a buddy for several years now and we’ve been closely watching the wild creations born from his shop. After several phone calls, text message streams and emails, the stealthy wolf fur theme for our Marin dream build was solidified and we let Tony take it from there.
Suspension:
After talking with Chris Holmes at Marin, we got in touch with Mark Jordan over at Fox Shox to supply the Witch Hunter with buttery smooth suspension. The shock proved to be slightly stressful as the NAILD suspension design requires a completely unique shock tune with radically undamped circuits. We also worked with Fox’s custom department to print up some special decals we designed to accentuate the frame’s spectacular paint job.
Rolling Stock:
Jake Pantone and the crew at Enve Composites set the Witch Hunter up with matching custom decals for our flashy new M730 wheels. Laced to DT Swiss hubs, these wheels are sure to stop crowds and make whoever wins this bike the center of attention at any trailhead. Schwalbe Addix rubber comes in the form of a Nobby Nic/Magic Mary combo. This setup has been a reliable standby on countless bikes we’ve ridden over the years.
Drivetrain:
We love Shimano XT components because they blend the top-shelf performance of XTR at a more affordable price point. XT brakes are among our favorite stoppers on the market and we know from experience that being able to stop the Wolf Ridge is no small task thanks to the speeds it achieves on the rowdiest of descents. The only change we made to the Shimano drivetrain was in the name of vanity, and that was a blacked out KMC chain.
Components:
The small odds ‘n’ ends came from smaller independent brands who’s ethos and values we identify with. Deity supplied us with some Knuckleduster grips and Black Kat pedals. To match the Enve wheels we spec’d Enve’s new carbon Mountain stem and carbon DH bars. We also worked with local brand, PNW Components to get a Bachelor dropper post on the bike and WTB got us an early sample of their Volt Ti saddle. We’ll be making a limited edition run Volt Ti for a charitable trail-funding project in the future! Stay tuned for that.
The Loam Wolf would like to extend a huge thank you to all the brands involved in making this bike a reality. It was a ton of work and stress, but has been equally rewarding. It’s safe to say now that we have the bike, it won’t be easy to give it away. But, we’ll take comfort in knowing that it’s going to a good home with one deserving member of the Wolf Pack! Good luck.
