CANNONDALE
THE NEW MOTERRA SL
The Lightest Full-Power Mountain Bike Ever*
Moterra SL is the first 150mm trail bike to pack 85Nm of torque, 600W+ of peak output, and 601Wh of power into a machine weighing as little as 19.5kg / 43lbs.
*eMTB with drive unit capable of at least 85Nm of torque and battery capacity of at least 600Wh. Full-power fun meets lightweight agility – it’s in a class of its own.
IT WAS A CLASSIC GOLDILOCKS MOMENT.
We had just wrapped up a few days of ride testing a bunch of different e-MTBs, and we were sitting in the lodge, having a beer and sharing notes. The usual banter: all the sends, scrapes, and near misses; what we liked, and didn’t like, and what we’d change about each of the designs – all that post-ride dorkery that always happens after a good session.
As the evening wore on, we began to notice that we had more or less divided ourselves down the middle into two opposing, yet interestingly similar, camps. There were those who liked the giddy power and big range of the heavyweight e-bikes, but wished they were lighter and more agile; and those who preferred the more nimble, playful feel of the lightweight e-bikes, but wished they had more power and range. Some porridge is too hot. Other porridge is too cold. And the two porridges are tough to ride together because they move at different speeds, and thrive with different terrain and riding styles.
The solution was obvious – we needed to create that “just-right” porridge – a mountain bike that delivered the best of both; the power and range of the heavyweights, with the agility and pop of the lightweights. Easy, right? Hardly. There were lots of reasons why an E-MTB like that didn’t exist yet. But with our decades of experience making both superlight mountain bikes, and cutting-edge e-bikes, we knew we could do it. It was time to get cookin’.
Blending weight-saving carbon tech from our Scalpel XC race bikes, suspension kinematics and geo from our rowdy trail bikes, motor and ride tuning experience from our eMTBs, plus some cutting-edge battery technology, we whipped up something truly delicious – the lightest, full-power, full-range mountain bike ever made. The Moterra SL. So Luscious.
OVERVIEW
HIGH ON POWER, LOW ON WEIGHT
Electric mountain bikes with this much power on tap have never been this light. The lightweight carbon fiber frame features our weight-saving FlexPivot technology, and houses a custom battery that packs more watts per kilo than any other on the market. That unmatched power-to-weight ratio makes for one hell of a fun ride.

FULL BOOST
Power comes from a custom-tuned version of Shimano’s EP801drive unit – the lightest motor capable of the big power we were looking for. With 85Nm of torque and 600+ watts of max output, it brings big-time boost to the lightweight party.
POWER A LA MODE
We developed custom ride modes for Moterra SL, specially tuned for the kind of high-speed sessions this rig encourages. Four different levels of boost, easily adjustable on the fly, help you choose between maximum range, monstrous power, or your ideal blend of both. Whether mild or wild, your ride will be whatever you want it to be, no more and no less.
HEAVENLY HANDLING
At a glance, it looks kinda crazy – an adjustable head angle slack enough for a DH bike, the long reach and steep seat angle of a modern trail bike, suspension layout and geometry fully customized by size – but when it all comes together, it absolutely rips.
ANIMATED SUSPENSION
More than just weight-savers, our burly FlexPivot stays are also at the heart of our suspension design. By acting as a Horst pivot, it creates a true four-bar system, allowing our engineers to dial in the perfect suspension response for every input. The result? Incredible traction, confident braking, and a playful feel that just begs to be pushed harder.
FEATURES
Shimano EP801 Drive Unit
Shimano’s top-shelf e-MTB system: lightweight, reliable, and powerful. 85Nm of torque and 600 watts of max power, delivered via custom-engineered ride modes for full-power fun.
Custom 601Wh Battery
Using special cells that store more power per kilo than ever before, we created an incredibly compact battery that packs a full 601 watt-hours into just 3.1 kg including the wiring harness. All of the power, less of the weight.
Custom-Tuned Ride Modes
Specially designed assist modes for the perfect ride : ECO – max range for all-day exploits. TRAIL – mid-power, great for riding with friends on lightweight e-bikes. BOOST – ramps up the assist for ripping with full-power e-bikes. And TURBO – full power, all the time. Have it your way.
Designed For You
With our Proportional Response design, everything from the suspension layout to the geometry — even the length of the chain stays — is completely customized for each bike’s size. It’s performance, built just for you.
Flip It Your Way
The Flip Chip means you can choose between keeping Moterra Neo SL as a “mullet” bike, with the 29 inch front/27.5-inch-rear wheel setup for agility and playfulness, or if switching to 29-inchers at both ends, for maximum traction and rolling efficiency.
FlexPivot
These carbon flex points are something we pioneered years ago, and they’re like a cheat code in frame engineering. They reduce weight, eliminate maintenance, and they allow us to use a sophisticated four-bar suspension design, increasing your traction and control on the trail.
Route it Right
On the model 1 and 2 bikes you can run internal cables straight through the headset, to keep things looking clean and out of harm’s way, or through ports in the frame, for simplicity and ease of service.
Get Your Head Set
Adjustable headset cups give you a 1.2-degree range of angle adjustment at the front. Dial it back if you want more stability at speed, set it steeper if you want more agility on technical terrain.
Don’t Be Bashful
Like a helmet for your motor, an integrated bashguard protects it from harsh impacts on the trail. You may not need it much, but when you do, you’re happy it’s there.
