CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF TWIST

The magnetic-mechanical bottle system that changed how riders carry hydration marks a decade of cage-free innovation.

Ten years ago, FIDLOCK introduced a new way to attach a bottle to a bike. What started as a simple idea, replacing the traditional bottle cage with a compact magnetic-mechanical mounting system, quickly became something much bigger.

Today, TWIST has grown into one of FIDLOCK’s most recognizable product families, with bottles, bags, tool solutions, lock holders, and other applications for cycling, urban mobility, and outdoor use. To celebrate the system’s 10-year anniversary, FIDLOCK is looking back at the product that helped create an entirely new category and introducing two limited-edition commemorative products.

FIDLOCK first unveiled the TWIST bottle and bike base at Eurobike in 2016. The goal was straightforward: create a more intuitive, compact, and secure way to carry a bottle on a bike. The answer was a magnetic guide paired with a mechanical lock, allowing riders to ditch the traditional bottle cage and use a small, low-profile base mounted directly to the frame.

The system immediately resonated with riders, especially those on small frames, full-suspension mountain bikes, e-bikes, and other bikes with limited frame space. What was originally developed as an OEM solution quickly gained momentum across the industry and among riders, helping launch a dedicated consumer product division at FIDLOCK.

“It’s rare for a system to still be among the most influential developments in its category a decade later. And for a water bottle to be the catalyst for a dedicated consumer unit is probably historically unique,” said Friedemann Richter, Technical Director of Retail Products at FIDLOCK and a member of the original TWIST development team.

Over the past decade, TWIST has evolved from a bottle mount into a modular platform. The core idea remains the same: magnetic guidance makes attachment easy, while the mechanical lock keeps the product secure. That combination has enabled FIDLOCK to expand TWIST across different materials, sizes, and applications while maintaining a clean, intuitive user experience.

For riders, TWIST solved a problem many had simply learned to live with: bottles that were hard to access, cages that did not fit certain frames, and mounts that could rattle, eject, or get in the way. Ten years later, the system remains a smart, clean, and secure way to carry hydration and gear on the bike.

To mark the 10-year milestone, FIDLOCK is introducing two special-edition TWIST products that celebrate both the system’s beginning and its continued evolution.

A tribute to the original TWIST bottle from 2016, the limited-edition TWIST10 590 Anniversary Edition features neon yellow details and a special anniversary design inspired by key moments from the past decade of FIDLOCK innovation. The bottle is based on the current TWIST bottle 590 and includes an ergonomic shape, high flow rate, and a protective cap that helps keep the mouthpiece clean.

Limited to 1,000 pieces, the TWIST10 bike base signature edition is CNC-machined from aluminum, individually numbered, and made in Germany. The special-edition base combines the minimalist design language of the original TWIST system with premium materials, precise manufacturing, and a striking anniversary finish.
