VELOCIRAX MAX VERTICAL BIKE RACK
UPDATES, EXPERIENCE AND HOW TO BUILD
June 29, 2025
One of our all time favorite bikes racks get an update, and it’s now even more capable than before. The Velocirax Max is the second iteration of Utah-based Velocirax’s flagship vertical bike rack. The updated Max shares some similar parts and overall functionality, however some notable improvements make it not only easier to use but also increase max load and carrying capacities.
We received one of the first production Max racks back in April at Sea Otter Classic. We actually met up with Velocirax for some post-otter burritos at one of our favorite spots before building the rack in the parking lot. After learning about the rack while the crew built the rack in just about 20 minutes, we hit the road and have spent the last couple of months testing it thoroughly.
Full disclosure, Velocirax got us this rack early as they sponsored our eMTB Shootout and wanted us to have the new rack for some more testing and to really see what this new rack is all about. As part of that sponsorship, we created this video to showcase the rack in detail, and educate our readers and viewers on the new rack. So, you’ll have to stay tuned for our official long term review later this summer after we stack a few thousand more miles with this rack.
WHAT’S NEW ABOUT VELOCIRAX MAX?
The Velocirax Max has increased carrying capacity. You can now load up to 300lbs of bikes onto this rack, compared to the outgoing rack’s 230lbs. The redesigned wheel baskets can now hold 100lbs compared to the last version’s 55lb max.
A small but greatly improved feature of the new rack is their redesigned release lever. It makes it much easier to pull, even with the rack fully loaded.
Velocriax have also redesigned and welded the hinge assembly with bushings for added durability and long lasting smoothness of operation.
Another welcome improvement is the updated center pin. It is now square with a tapered leading edge, which ensures a stable rack side to side.

Many of the other key features that have made Velocirax such an awesome rack remain the same. We really like the integrated lock add-on as it means we can quickly secure the racks for quite post-ride burritos. That’s twice now I’ve mentioned burritos, maybe I have a problem?
Velocirax still uses their damper-assisted self-lowering feature remains as does the roll-in/roll-out loading technique.
We also made use of their Camp Mode quite a bit at the eBike Shootout as it allowed us to stow bikes, work on them and pump tires with ease.
And for those looking to use this rack in the garage as well as the vehicle, their garage mount bracket makes it easy to secure the rack to the wall for keeping bikes tidy in your garage.
The Wolf’s First Impressions
We’ve been using this rack for months, transported all our eMTB test bikes from Bend, Oregon to Zion Mountain Ranch Utah and plenty of places in-between. So far, we have been completely happy with how the rack performs. It offers all the great things we loved about our old Velocirax but with a few really nice improvements and a higher weight capacity which our crew really make use of more often than we’d like to admit.
