THE NEW ERA EMTB WHEELS
BUILT FOR BOOST
February 24, 2026
Electric mountain bikes are more popular than ever before, and for good reason. Whether it’s enabling riders with lower mobility or satisfying riders that are shorter on time than they used to be, the proportion of eMTB riders will continue to grow. Light-assist or full-power, with added weight and torque, this growing category demands more from MTB components.
Race Face believes mountain bike components should be designed with the experience of all riders in mind. That means committing to creating category-specific components for the eMTB rider or ensuring our analogue components can stand up to the punishment of eMTBs.
While many Race Face components such as grips, stems and pedals are approved for eMTB use, others products require dedicated engineering and design to properly optimize them for the eMTB rider. Specifically, our wheel and crank offerings.

BUILT FOR BOOSTING. PLAYFUL UNDER PRESSURE.
A set of carbon wheels is one of the best upgrades you can make for any bike. They have a lively ride feel, lighter handling, and remain true longer than their alloy counterparts. Our Era carbon wheels have been well-liked among even the most discerning of riders, touted for a unique, compliant feel that is still accurate in all the right ways. We wanted to bring those ride characteristics to riders ripping full power e-bikes, but in a package that was stronger, more impact resistant and with compliance tuned for the added weight of a battery and motor. An Era wheel built for the rigors of relentless eMTB sends.

TUNED FOR HEAVYWEIGHTS
1. Rim Design – Era eMTB employs the same front and rear-specific rim profiles use in our standard Era wheels. This design results in a wheelset with more lateral compliance up front—for improved handling and control in the rough—and strength out back. The front rim is 18.6mm deep. Strategic pairing of that rim with thicker spokes reduced lateral compliance of Era eMTB by 15% versus Era. Still compliant but better suited for the added weight (and thereby forces) of an eMTB while maintaining the ride feel we’re known for. The rear rim features a 22.6mm depth to better withstand impacts. Both rims feature our thicker Anvil Edge bead wall for added tire protection and strength.
2. Steel Axle – Vault hubs with 3-degree engagement and best-in-class sealing, but with the slight modification of a steel internal axle. This increases the strength and stiffness of the hub to withstand even the harshest impacts of a full power eMTB.
3. Spokes – 28 double-butted spokes in the front and 32 in the rear, secured with black brass nipples. We opted for J-bend to accommodate 32 spokes in the rear wheel for additional strength and stiffness. J-bends were used up front for user simplicity and service. The spokes use in both wheels are also thicker, measuring 1.7 (F) and 1.8mm (R) at their thinnest. A stout step up from 1.65mm spokes used in our standard Era wheels. Era eMTB strikes an ideal balance of weight efficiency, strength and traction-inducing compliance for the eMTB rider or heavy hitter after burly carbon wheels. For relentless riding, lap after lap, and the best ride feel possible. Oh yeah, it’s all coming together.
