ABOUT THE TERAVAIL LYTHO LOCK-ON GRIPS
Coming from the same ownership as Salsa Cycles, Teravail uses what they call a “three-zone design” on the Lytho Lock-On Grips. Made from 25A-Durometer Rubber, Teravail hopes to strike the balance between comfort, control and longevity.
The thickest part of the Lytho – between the thumb and forefinger – has a mushroom texture for vibration dampening and rub resistance. The main section of the grip features a unique knurling section, modeled after that of monolithic rock formations. This gives a sturdy grip in wet conditions through to when things dry out late in the season. The tapered lithic texture fits nicely in the palm, and also allows you to stay anchored, with distinct contact points that feel familiar every single time you grab the bars. The grip is finished off with a ridge at the end to keep your hands in place and prevent them from falling off when trail features get technical or rugged.
The Lytho Lock-On Grips come in two different thicknesses (35mm and 32mm) to accommodate hands of varying sizes, as well as 5 different colors so you can match your grips to your ride. At $28, their pricing is in-line with the competition.

THE DIRT
I’m a firm believer that a good set of grips can make or break a day, and also be the deciding factor of when a long day at the bike park is over. No matter who you talk to, every rider will have a style of grip they swear by, and if I’m being honest, I’m usually one of those people. I have never been one for skinny grips, and prefer a cushioned pattern, usually with a different texture to cater to my needs on the underside of the grip.
I love riding downhill and enduro style trails, and hammer laps at the bike park, so I have always preferred the thickest grips I could find to deliver damping and comfort. When I first put the Lytho Lock-On Grips on, I was skeptical about whether these were going to align with what I like in a grip, but I couldn’t have been more surprised. I felt that these actually damped vibration and rubbing better than my previous favorite grips, and as they wore in, the rubber just got better.
From a size perspective, the Teravail grips were only a tad smaller than the 36mm of the Deity Megattack they were replacing. Having ridden them for the last few months, I can say that I prefer these over the Deity’s. I found that the mushroom texture at the thumb and index finger relieved the hot spot you get with a lot of grips on long rides and aggressive bike park laps. The lithic knurled texture allowed me to pull hard against the bars and maintain dialed control lap after lap. I think this grip will work for a wide variety of riders, no matter what your style is or where you like to ride.

There were only two real call-outs of things I felt were possible “downsides”, or at least improvements for my preferences. First being that the mushroom texture certainly wears quickly, and as with any soft grip texture, it’s the first thing to go. The second thing I found myself missing from other grips I have run was the lack of differing grip texture on the underside of the bars, where your fingertips rest. I felt like there were enough tactile points to be in the familiar spot each ride, but I do prefer grips with different top and bottom textures.
The Wolf’s Last Word
Even as someone picky about grips, I would absolutely recommend the Teravail Lytho Lock-On. Not only do I plan to keep them on my current bike, but I also feel like they are going to perform in truly any style of trail, and for a variety of different riders across the country. The grips come in at a typical price point of $28, meaning they stand up well next to any grip on the market, and you are unlikely to be dissatisfied if you give these a go. ![]()
