Endura MT500 Dirt Robe Review

ABOUT THE ENDURA MT500 DIRT ROBE

The concept of a changing robe is nothing new, but Endura gave the MT500 Dirt Robe the full works to offer a seriously high-quality and well-considered option. The outer uses a waterproof ripstop material that’ll keep you dry when changing at the end of a rainy ride. On the inside, the upper uses a thermal fleece to offer much-appreciated warmth and drying capabilities, including the hood. The lower body uses a diamond-quilted liner, reducing mud sticking.

Fleece-lined hand pockets give your digits some welcome warmth after a cold ride. A 2-way, full-length zip makes for easy on-and-offing. The party piece Endura designed is the welt openings, which let you reach inside the robe to more easily remove your kit without exposing yourself to the elements and the public. On the inside there’s a zip pocket to store any essentials safely.

The Endura MT500 Dirt Robe is offered in a choice of three sizes: XS-S, M-L or XL-XXL. There is currently a single grey color on offer, with a retail price of $300 / £180 / €209.

Endura MT500 Dirt Bag Review

ABOUT THE ENDURA MT500 DIRT BAG

The MT500 Dirt Bag is designed to ease the process of getting changed and transporting your muddy gear. While its $55 / £40 / €46 price point may feel a little high, its effectiveness may make it a worthwhile investment for those committed to the filth.

Made from a waterproof material with a smooth outer to resist mud, the Dirt Bag gives your feet protection from wet and muddy ground when changing your shoes. Once you’ve removed your dirty gear, the drawstring and choice of two handle lengths make transporting easy. There’s also a little zip pocket to store a key or your lip balm.

THE DIRT

The mud seems to be hitting that little bit harder this year in the UK, so I’ve been extremely thankful for Endura’s post-ride combo to avoid trashing my vehicle. Throwing the Dirt Robe on, I could pull my shoes off and stand on the Dirt Bag, drop my muddy gear, and be ready to sit in my car with the dirty gear secured in the bag in quick time. Reducing the time and effort to get on the road back home at the end of a cold and muddy ride made it that little bit easier to convince myself to get back out into the mud for the next one, which is invaluable at this time of year.

The biggest bonus was how damn comfortable the Dirt Robe was to wear. Better than a warm hug, I even found myself getting excited thinking about it towards the end of a cold ride. At the same time, it was not just a functional piece of gear, but packed a little style to match. My partner even suggested I could wear it as a jacket in my day-to-day without too much concern. Its warmth and waterproofing would let this fly for lower-effort scenarios, but its limited breathability won’t offer the ideal companion for any proper activities.

Both of Endura’s MT500 Dirt products have been executed flawlessly in my eyes. They work extremely well for their intended purposes, with suitable material choices and details well covered throughout. I mistakenly received the M-L instead of the XL-XXL Dirt Robe, so I was thankful to find its generous cut. In the end, I was pretty stoked on this smaller size, as it gave a more usable cut. The bigger size would have made changing even easier, though.

The Wolf’s Last Word

Far from essential items at first glance, Endura’s MT500 Dirt Robe and Dirt Bag combination greatly eases the post-ride cleanup process after muddy winter rides. As a high-quality gift idea or a reward to yourself for your perseverance through the worst riding conditions, they do an excellent job at what they’re designed for.
