HANDUP A.T. PANTS REVIEW
Review by Nic Hall
Handup Gloves have been expanding well beyond the glove market and introducing more and more products to their line. A couple months ago we got a pair of Handup A.T. pants for review and have fallen in love with them. Handup is committed to making functional gear with a minimalist design that’s comfortable on the bike, the golf course or date night with your special lady friend. Let’s dig in and check out the Handup A.T. pants.
THE LAB
The A.T. or All Time pant is designed to fit in everywhere from the trail, to a meeting on the golf course and then to the bar for a pint. They are built out of a four way stretch cotton, poly, spandex blend material with a modern taper from the knee to ankle. Pockets and fly have YKK zippers and the waistband has a draw string with belt loops available if you need to dress the pant up. Logos are minimal and subdued which wins points with our crew.
Durability was clearly a focus when Handup designed these pants yet they remain thin and comfortable. They incorporated reinforced nylon strapping for the main closure button, double stitched essential seams and created flex gusseting in the knee. The pant comes in tan, grey, olive and black so you can match it with any kit. Sizing is available in small through XXL, with set inseams that correlate with waist size.
THE DIRT
The Handup AT pants certainly put fashion first but are no slouches when it comes to performance. They don’t have vents, or perforations like riding specific gear does, but they also don’t look like they only belong on a bike. We wore these pants with some thinner knee pads on while pedaling deep into the woods on cooler days, we wore them to dinner, and they have essentially become like a pair of trusty sweatpants that we always change into for the long drive home after a sweaty day on the trail. They’re light, easy to put on and look great.
We rode these pants in some warm conditions through the end of summer and thought they did a pretty decent job of remaining comfortable, even without ventilation. They breathe pretty well and while we wouldn’t say they’re the ideal summer pant in SoCal of Phoenix, they do fine. The knee taper is just right to fit a lower profile kneepad under them without the “stuffed skinny jeans” look.
After a few light falls, kneeling on the garage floor for maintenance and wading through bushes for photo shoots, the A.T. pants are still holding strong. The zippered pockets are nice also a nice addition to keep your keys and phone from skidding down the trail after you. Flex is great, and we’ve never felt restricted by the pants. Fit was also spot on for our testers, making it easy for everyone to get the right size on the first try.
The Wolf’s Last Word
If you are looking for a do-it-all pant that can stick with you from the office to the trail these are a great option for slimmer riders. The A.T. pant from Handup is tough, flexible and looks good in every situation but we could see some thicker folks having some issues with the size. We really like the fit and wouldn’t change a thing, but perhaps a “Big Boy” model could be offered for riders with big thighs and butts. For just $49, it’s hard to fault these pants. Whether you’re looking for some casual threads to wear around town and occasionally take in the dirt, or you like the stealthy vibes of riding in pants, we’d suggest giving these a look.
