ABOUT THE MONSERAT MTB TECH HOODIE
Monserat has updated their MTB Tech Hoodie coming into 2025, building upon their original version with some updated features and design. The Monserat MTB Tech Hoodie is designed to offer that extra bit of insulation for the colder days in the saddle, with an 84% recycled Polyester tech material. This material is made in Italy, and the hoodie is then manufactured in Portugal. On the inside of the MTB Tech Hoodie is a brushed finish, giving great comfort and aiding insulation and moisture wicking.
A unique offering for the Monserat MTB Tech Hoodie is the optional windproof front layer. Made from 90% recycled polyester, this option is designed to block the wind from passing through the MTB Tech Hoodie from the front, helping to keep the rider warm. Adding this option increases the price of the Hoodie by €20, but may just be worth it, as we’ll talk about in the ride impressions.
Updated for Monserat’s new MTB Tech Hoodie is the raised collar design, which closes the gap between the rider’s chin and the chest of the hoodie, reducing the loss of heat. This collar blends into a large over-helmet stretch hood, and there’s an elastic drawstring to secure it in place when it’s really blowing without compromising vision.
Rounding out the features, there’s a kangaroo pocket with brushed lining to keep your hands warm when you’re chilling, and a drawstring on the hem to keep the hoodie in place. Monserat offers the MTB Tech Hoodie in a choice of six different designs in sizes S-XXL, with the standard version retailing for €99.95 and the windbreaker-equipped rising to €119.95.

THE DIRT
Having enjoyed my time in Monserat’s previous generation MTB Tech Hoodie, I was excited to see if they could do even better this time around. Much to my relief, they kept the general philosophy and materials the same, with some minor tweaks that ended up being mostly dialed.
I’m a big fan of the stretchy tech material Monserat uses for these hoodies, with the brushed inner lining feeling cosy without being uncomfortable when you’re working hard. It manages to balance insulation with moisture wicking very well, adding much appreciated warmth without being stifling – even with its absence of any air vents. When temperatures dropped to the 3C (37F) to 8C (46F) range, pedaling in the Monserat MTB Tech Hoodie was pleasant with a jersey beneath. Uplift days up to the 13C (55F) mark or so were also excellent, but things could begin to get a little hot above this for my hot-running nature.
The updated cut with the raised collar was great and really added to the feelings of being protected from the elements, though I found the rear of the hem was inclined to ride up and expose my waistband more often than the previous. I’m unsure if the overall back length has reduced slightly or if my ass got bigger (god knows I’m trying), but the result was a few more instances of mud getting down my pants. I’d love to see an extra inch or so added onto the rear of the hem to prevent this.
SHOULD YOU BUY THE WINDBREAKER VERSION?
I often forgot which of the two Monserat MTB Tech Hoodies featured the windbreaker panel, with both of them feeling very similar for the majority of the time. But after a gruelling climb that left me saturated with sweat, the windbreaker’s benefits shone bright. Or more to the point, I missed having it on the non-windbreaker version.
When I was sweaty and rolling downhill, the wind passing through the non-windbreaker version combined with the moisture wicking properties of the tech fabric to really pull the heat from me. Its incredible how quickly body heat can leave you, and it can be so hard to bring it back when there’s a wind blowing. The windbreaker-equipped Monserat MTB Tech Hoodie made a notable improvement to retaining core body temperature, without sacrificing comfort or breathability. That €20 is worth spending in my eyes, unless you’re immune to getting too cold.
The Wolf’s Last Word
The updated Monserat MTB Tech Hoodie continues to offer stellar performance, with its tweaks mostly providing an improved user experience. We’d love to see the rear hem dropped slightly, but otherwise consider this to be a stellar offering. Especially in the windbreaker-equipped model, which boosts temperature management capabilities for just a small price penalty.
Price: €99.95 (Standard) – €119.95 (Windbreaker)
