ABOUT THE ROTALUBER
- Precision Application: The RotaLuber slides around and syncs up with your chain to deposit oil exactly at the roller gap to the inner link plate. The roller has two holes on either side so the lube falls directly onto the pin and bushing. No drips, missed links or wasted lube to clean up.
- Roller-Rotating Follower: Once the lube is dispensed, the chain passes over a rubber strip that grips each roller, spinning it to distribute oil around the bearing. As the roller spins the goal is to push oil around and into the bearing to keep your chain rolling smoothly.
- Adjustable Flow: An easy thumb dial lets you fine-tune the oil output, accommodating anything from thin Teflon-infused lubes to heavier waxes or ceramic blends. Although we didn’t try very thick wax lubes like our personal favorite DarkMatter 53:11.
- Compatibility: It works with 10, 11 and 12-speed chains and everything from gravel, road and MTBs to eBikes. Speaking of eBikes, they do have some eMTB BackPedal tools that could be worth checking out.

THE DIRT
Putting the RotaLuber through its paces in the workshop and in the trailhead parking lot, here’s what we found:
- Speed: One full chain rotation and you’re done—we never once lost or dropped a needle, spilled lube or made a mess during the application. We did however make a mess when the bottle tipped over and we left the applicator head attached. It leaks, so, do be sure to swap out the applicator for the threaded cap when not in use.
- Cleanliness: Your bike’s chain, towel and ground beneath will all remain cleaner as oil is only applied where needed and you can tune that via the Flow Knob.
- Consistency: Once dialed in, each application is repeatable. Gone are the days of under-lubing half the link or dumping too much on one side.
- Waste Reduction: We had one of our more meticulous chain lubers test this product as well as Drew the brute. Our careful tester noticed he used notably less lube and had a smooth running drivetrain due to the effectiveness of the oil placement.
- Learning Curve: There is a learning curve for this tool. Attaching the tool just right so it seats onto your chain, adjusting flow and trusting that you are actually lubing your chain because of how clean it is.
- Gimmick Factor?: No denying, it looks like a gadget, but every feature has a purpose. And this thing functions just as it’s designed to, no matter how it looks.
The Wolf’s Last Word
The RotaLuber delivers on its promise of precision, speed, and cleanliness. It’s not the cheapest chain-lube setup out there, but for riders and mechanics who value consistency and want to squeeze maximum mileage out of their drivetrain while saving lube and cleanup time, it’s a purchase worth considering.
Yes, it might feel a bit over-engineered at first, but once you’ve really looked closely at your chain, you maye want to give the RotaLuber a spin—you might just find your favorite new way to lube up.
