ABOUT THE STUNTMAN CHEST MOUNT
The Stuntman High Stability Chest Mount for GoPro and other action cameras features a large base plate made from a shock-absorbing elastomer. This plate is designed to spread the load across your chest, creating a much more stable environment for your action camera of choice. Stuntman claims that the elastomer material used is more shock absorbent than standard plastic, which holds up to the claim on the trail.
The straps are 1.5” wide, with a slight stretch. This relative lack of stretch allows for the mount to stay more secure when riding, but there is still some give to the straps to help aid in comfort. As a result, the Stuntman High Stability Chest Mount was not overly restricting when riding, finding a good balance. The triple triangle stitching on the back of the straps is not only durable, but helps the straps to lay flat under a backpack. Each of the 4 straps has individual adjustments for dialling in your fit. A standard click buckle secures the entire system.
Stuntman offers a mount style that works with every type of camera, including a dedicated style for the oddly shaped Insta360. We have used both the DJI Osmo Action and GoPro cameras with the system, with great success. Stuntman shipped both their traditional J-hook mount and the extended ball head mount, allowing me to test both.
Retail price for the Stuntman High Stability Chest Mount for GoPro and other action cameras comes in at $28.99, and they are available directly from the Stuntman website or on Amazon.

THE DIRT
Getting out on the trail and shooting footage the Stuntman High Stability Chest Mount for GoPro and other action cameras paid for itself on the first ride. Most chest strap offerings work acceptably in the best conditions. But when filming in the dark woods, the stabilization software on action cameras is pushed to the limits, and having a sturdy mount that does not bounce around can make or break a video. We have all had those runs where it was an epic trail, only to get back home and watch it back, realizing there are just a few seconds of usable footage. The Stuntman strap lived up to the “high stability” in its name.
Adjusting the Stuntman Chest Mount was straightforward, and easy enough to do when on your body. There is plenty of room for smaller-framed humans to cinch down the straps, while at the same time having enough range and stretch for larger riders as well. There is no maximum chest size noted on the website, which I would like to see, but the adjustment range should be suitable for most riders.
Stuntman sent out two different styles of mounts, the standard J-hook and another that has an extended arm with an adjustable ball mount. I wanted to try the extended ball head to see if I could get a more “over the bar” look with the camera. Both mounts worked great, with no issues to report. The ball mount option put more leverage on the mount, which on large compressions sometimes caused some motion in the video. But this was minimal, thankfully, and the Stuntman Chest Mount still outperformed most options. I enjoy that higher mount option, even though it’s only about 2” higher, the perspective difference is noticeable.

As you can see in the video, the difference in stability is massive, especially on the first section. For reference, that is about a 4’ drop to flat, something that is the hardest thing to overcome for these types of mounts. The Stuntman gets an A+ in my book! One of the only downsides to the mount is that when wearing it for 5 hours or more, it can cause some discomfort as the plate is quite stiff. While it does not “dig” into you, the sturdy nature of the plate can cause some hot spots if you have it snugged up very tight. The straps do not loosen over time, both the adjustment and the actual stretch in the straps. The GoPro-branded Chesty comparatively loses its support over time, as shown in how bouncy that section of the video was.
I have a DJI Osmo 360 coming in to use this year, and I am keen to see how well the Stuntman High Stability Chest Mount handles the extra weight with the extended ball clamp mount. I feel that 360 camera field of view with a higher mounting point is going to be awesome. As I sit on a plane headed to a new bike launch I have the Stuntman packed in my camera bag, while I personaly prefer the chin mount angle, I am not always in a full face helmet, so the Stuntman Chest Mount blends the gap for me, with minimal compromises. It is a piece of gear that comes with me on every trip!

HOW DOES IT COMPARE?
I feel like there really is no comparison in the quality of footage you get from this product, as clearly shown in the video. The quick disconnect and rear mount on the DJI chesty is pretty slick, but ultimately the stability of these products is what matters most, and the Stuntman High Stability Chest Mount takes the win. Add on the additional mounting types for various cameras, gimbals or anything you can stick a ¼ 20 thread on, the options and ideas are endless.
The Wolf’s Last Word
The Stuntman product line of camera mounts is hands down my favourite product on the market for chest-mounted POV. The improved stabilization compared to competitors makes a night and day difference. If they charged twice the price, the Stuntman Chest Mount would still be a no-questions-asked purchase for serious POV filming. ![]()
