TROY LEE DESIGNS FLOWLINE LS JERSEY REVIEW
Review by Alex Sardella
Troy Lee Designs is a name that needs no introduction in the mountain bike industry. We are always excited to get our hands on TLD gear as they continue to impress us. New for this year, Troy Lee introduced the Flowline collection; a stylish, simplistic, price point line of jerseys and shorts to round out the brands broader range of apparel options. The line is designed to feel casual, so going out to dinner or to your favorite watering hole post-ride is a seamless transition without needing a new wardrobe.
THE LAB
The Flowline LS jersey features a Dura-Knit fabric: a mix of polyester and cotton that is moisture wicking and quick drying. The Bluesign approved material is breathable but still holds in body heat on those crisp Fall days. There are no secondary materials used on the jersey, sometimes you will find a more breathable mesh on the back or under the armpits – but I think TLD wanted to keep the jerseys affordable, so opted for the same material throughout. However, there is fairly large microfiber cloth on the lower left inside the jersey, for wiping shades or goggles, so they are still catering for the needs of a bike rider. The jersey has a drop-tail back, meaning the back of the jersey is slightly longer to allow for a tailored fit that covers the waistline while descending. The neck cuff is about a half-inch thick fitting naturally around the neck without irritation, a key feature that some LS jerseys miss! Minimal threads and seams on the inside allow the jersey to fit without chafing and sit flush against your skin.
The Flowline long sleeve is a relaxed design best suited for trail and enduro riding. The Flowline long sleeve comes in sizes S – 2XL and retails for $55.00. Because of the simple design approach, TLD offers a customizable program allowing consumers to put a name and number on the jersey for an additional $60.00 – a pretty neat option if you are looking for a personal race jersey or to outfit a small team.

THE DIRT
I find myself looking to long-sleeve options more and more these days. Whether sneaking in a ride before sunset, pedaling up to higher alpine elevations, or shuttling local dh trails, I like the extra coverage a longer sleeve offers, especially if you are in for a rowdy descent. I am 6’3, 180lbs, and the size Large fits me well, so the line may run a little big for those looking for a racier fit, for whom sizing down may be preferred. The TLD Flowline jersey is simple and sleek, and the stripes make for a fresh look. With that, I am not a big fan of the pinkish ‘Coral’ color, which is a bit too loud for me, but I’ve nicknamed the jersey ‘jammin salmon’ which has a nice ring to it. I dig the subtle TLD logo printed small over the chest, it’s traditional and timeless. As more budget-minded jerseys go, the fabric does a good job at drawing moisture from the skin and keeping you dry, without feeling overly cool to the point that you need to add a layer as the fall sun goes down.
The Wolf’s Last Word
The Troy Lee Designs Flowline collection is a clean and subtle addition to TLD’s traditionally loud and colorful threads. I dig the collection as a whole and think more brands will offer apparel pieces that can be worn casually before, during, or after a bike ride – it’s more versatile that way, and you actually end up wearing the apparel more. The LS Flowline jersey is a fresh piece of clothing that pairs well on a Fall afternoon with sub 60-degree temps. Only thing we don’t dig is the secondary color to the traditional black, maybe a fern green or indigo blue would better suit my style.
