ABOUT THE FOX PROFRAME RS AURA
The Fox Proframe RS is loaded with desirable features, from its aggressive and stylish looks to its lightweight design, all while offering superior certified protection. The Proframe RS Aura is certified for downhill use, meeting the ASTM F1952 standard. It is offered in three sizes—Small, Medium, and Large—and weighs approximately 820 grams in a size Medium.
It features the well-known and trusted BOA® micro-adjustable fit system, allowing riders to dial in a customized, precise fit around the crown of their head. Arguably most importantly, the Fox Proframe RS Aura incorporates the Mips® Integra Split impact protection system. This technology combines dual-density foam with a low-friction layer between the foam layers, protective during both high- and low-speed impacts across the range of angles. The Mips system is designed to help mitigate rotational forces that could otherwise be transmitted to the brain during a crash.
Coming in at $399.95 or £329.99, the Fox Proframe RS is a premium full face mountain bike helmet that is offered in a wide range of designs and colorways to suit most style preferences.

THE DIRT
I have to be honest; there’s not a lot about the Proframe RS Aura to dislike. I have been logging some miles with it here in the Georgia heat, and the venting is excellent. Is it hotter than a half shell? Sure. But considering the level of protection it offers, I have zero complaints about how well the ventilation performs.
Fox’s choice to incorporate the BOA® Fit System into the helmet was a good one. I’m personally a big fan of the BOA® System. I have it on my 100% riding shorts, my Crankbrothers shoes, and just about anything else where it’s offered. This means that I have a level of trust in this system that I just don’t have with other micro-adjustable fit systems. It works well to get a secure fit without any pressure points, keeping it comfortable and safe.
My head measures 58 cm, which places me near the upper end of the medium size range for the Proframe RS Aura (55–59 cm). I run into this issue a lot, where I fall at the very top end of a medium or the very bottom end of a large. Having a trusted, reliable system to dial in a custom fit was high on my list of must-haves for my next full-face helmet. The BOA® Fit System, along with the included cheek pad options, allowed me to achieve a perfect fit where I would typically have to compromise, with a helmet that is either a little too big or a little too small.
The FIDLOCK magnetic closure gives me the easy on-and-off functionality I was looking for, too. Just bring the two ends of the chin strap close together, and the magnet does the rest. Then, with the snap of a finger, the buckle opens. This is a great feature to have when the craving for a snack hits mid-trail, or when you’re running late and your riding buddies are waiting for you to get geared up!
I have been running the SMITH Mainline helmet for years. And don’t get me wrong—it’s a great helmet. But with the Fox Proframe RS Aura, I get a better fit thanks to the BOA® System, a cooler ride due to the excellent ventilation, and I no longer have to fight with a D-ring closure to get the helmet on and off (which is even worse when wearing gloves!).
I mentioned earlier that there’s not a lot about this helmet to dislike. Well, here’s one thing: the price. The Proframe RS Aura comes in at $399.95, making it $50 to $100 more expensive than some of its competitors. For some riders, that will be a hard pill to swallow. However, with a premium price comes premium features. You can’t deny that the Proframe RS Aura looks great, fits exceptionally well, and offers excellent protection.
The Wolf’s Last Word
If you’re looking for a pedal-friendly helmet packed with premium features and thoughtful design, the Proframe RS Aura is for you. If I were to make a list of all the features I’d love to see in a helmet, this one would check almost every box. From the addition of the BOA® Fit System to the FIDLOCK magnetic closure, it has nearly everything you could ask for. If its hefty price tag doesn’t scare you away, I couldn’t recommend the Fox Proframe RS more highly. ![]()
