YETI TURQ WIND JACKET REVIEW

In addition to crafting some legendary bikes, Yeti takes pride in providing the same high quality and performance for their riding gear and apparel. I was lucky enough to be able to test the new Yeti TURQ Wind Jacket and put it through its paces here in the Southern Utah winter. We are blessed with year-round riding weather in Southern Utah, but temps do get chilly, and we tend to get a fair amount of wind. Often a light jacket is all that is needed for us thin-blooded desert folk to brave the dry, cold air of winter.

ABOUT THE YETI TURQ WIND JACKET

Yeti’s TURQ Wind Jacket is a very light weight, packable jacket designed to block wind while also offering light moisture protection. It is made from recycled Nylon Toray 55G/M2 stretch fabric and features a built-in stuff pocket, which allows for it to quickly and easily pack into itself.

This packable feature makes it very easy to store in a jersey pocket, hip pack, or backpack. It’s full zip design also has a lightweight hood that comfortably fits under a helmet for added wind protection.

THE DIRT

The Yeti TURQ Wind Jacket is very comfortable and has a nice fit. At 5’10”, my body type is a bit more “Soft around the edges” than the typical mountain biker, and my first impression when I put it on was that maybe I needed a size larger (I have an XL). However, after wearing it and riding, I found the fit to be very comfortable, and that the material has a nice stretchy quality to it, so I did not feel suffocated or self-conscious.

I have been able to test the jacket in temperatures ranging from 25-50° F, along with some VERY windy riding conditions. I was shocked at how well the jacket performed with blocking the wind and colder air. It is by no means a cold weather jacket, but it was perfect for my riding and test scenarios. Even when the temperatures increased, it had enough ventilation to still keep me comfortable and not overheat.

The material is very lightweight as mentioned, and that would have me worried about how well it might survive a crash, or maybe a snagging tree branch, but so far I’ve been lucky enough to keep it on two wheels and away from any grabby branches.

The jacket’s ability to pack into itself is also very handy, and I was able to easily fit it into my hip pack’s pocket. Once unpacked, however, the jacket is super wrinkled. A quick pass with a steamer fixed that easily.

The Wolf’s Last Word

If I had to summarize my impressions of the jacket, I’d say: “As Advertised.” The Yeti TURQ Wind Jacket is fantastic, and I love the quality, comfort, and performance it offers. Any rider needing a quick-grab, packable, lightweight jacket ought to give it a look! However, at a $200 MSRP, that may be a tough pill to swallow many riders, so I was even more stoked to get this jacket for free as part of my membership in the Loam Wolf Pack. This jacket will definitely be on my back until the sun starts warming up the Utah air this Spring.
