Starling Cycles

Starling Cycles is a custom, steel mountain bike frame manufacturer.

Starling’s products are designed and built in Bristol in the UK. Joe started Starling Cycles in 2015, bringing together his love of mountain biking and engineering and his expertise from the aerospace industry to create bikes that are fast and uncomplicated.

The Starling Cycles team believes that a simple bike is a fast bike. By building a tough, strong, reliable single pivot with a linear leverage ratio Starling creates bikes that riders can quickly jump onto, understand and get stuck into riding. This means more time going fast and less time setting up suspension, maintaining bearings and learning how to ride the bike.

Currently Starling has five different models to choose from: Twist 27”/29”, Murmur 29”, Swoop 27.5”, Sturn 29” and Migration. Starling describes the Twist as the love-child of a Swoop and a Murmur with a monster-truck 29” wheel up front and a fast, fun and flicky 27.5” wheel out back. The Twist is built from Reynolds 853 tubing, has 160mm of rear wheel travel and is built around a 160mm fork. The Murmur is Starling Cycles’ award winning 29er mountain bike frame. Built around 29” wheels and 140mm of rear travel the Murmur is built to feast on natural, technical trails. It is easy to setup, easy to maintain, easy to ride and easy to go fast.

But it’s hard to keep up with the ongoings at Starling, as founder Joe continually experiments with new concepts that he prototypes in his Bristol workshop, looking to add further performance gains to his machines. You’ll notice some very interesting machines being tested by us at The Loam Wolf, as Joe is a fan of the site and always keen to let our crew shred on his latest creations.
