Whyte have been delivering quality mountain bikes with competitive price tags to the UK and European markets for some time. The Sythe takes both performance and value to another level, and was launched just before Whyte announced their return to the North American market. Could the Whyte Sythe RS put up a fight against the Best Enduro Bikes on the market in 2026? We were excited to hit the trails of the UK to find out.

We’d like to extend a huge thanks to the supporting brands who kitted us out and made this series possible. Without their financial support, this eight-bike comparison test would not have happened. Go and show them some love!

Fidlock covered our hydration needs with their excellent TWIST bottle system and neat hip packs. The system allowed us to maximize the hydration capacity on each bike, which was helpful for those long testing days.

Peaty’s provided their Monarch Pro Mushroom Thin grips and new Monarch saddles to give consistent touch points across the bikes. Their cleaning and lubrication products helped to keep the bikes running smoothly throughout the testing.

iXS kitted out our testers with their gear and protection. The Trigger X helmet is amongst our favorites here at TLW, so we were glad to have the opportunity to wear it as we attacked the trails, and their apparel was comfortable and helped us look good.

Pirelli equipped all of our bikes with their new Emperor Hardwall Super Soft and Black Sting DH Wall Soft tire combo. These burly tires offered excellent traction and control to help us push these bikes to the limit.

Whyte Sythe RS Review | 2026 Enduro MTB Group Test

ABOUT THE WHYTE SYTHE RS

Coming in with competitive price tags for the componentry and performance on offer, the Sythe range is an exhibit of Whyte’s ability to focus on the things that matter and cut costs intelligently. The Whyte Sythe RS is a race-ready enduro bike with a complete bike price tag that undercuts some of the competitions frame-only offerings.

WHYTE SYTHE RS FRAME & SUSPENSION

Whyte has built high-quality aluminum bikes for years, and the Sythe is the latest in their multi-butted 6061-T6 frame lineage. It features 160mm of Quad Link 4, four-bar rear suspension; a 170mm fork, and a mixed-wheel setup as standard that can be converted to a dual-29” with an aftermarket rocker link. Whyte managed to strike an impressive combination of delivering quality details where it matters most, without compromising the final price tag.

In addition to the replaceable Shape. It Link – which provides the conversion between MX or 29” wheel setups – it also features a two-position flip chip, executed through the use of a custom-made offset shock bushing. Otherwise, there is no suspension kinematic or alternative geometry adjustability built in, but the frame features size-specific chainstays that grow by 10mm per size.

There is no internal frame storage, but Whyte gives space within the front triangle to fit the Fidlock 800 TWIST bottle with room to spare, as well as a tool mount on the top of the downtube, close to the headtube. There is a mudguard on the rear triangle to offer some protection to the pivot bearings; and a seal around the seatpost to keep water from entering the frame. Frame protection is ample, and the internal cable routing is effective, even if the portion hanging under the bottom bracket wouldn’t be our preferred choice. Dropper post insertion depth is good, if not the absolute deepest.

Whyte backs the Sythe frame with a lifetime warranty and free replacement pivot bearings for life – remarkable at this price tag.

WHYTE SYTHE GEOMETRY

Whyte gave the Sythe a purposeful enduro geometry package, sitting well in line with modern trends and offering a great balanced character. Size-specific chainstay lengths grow 10mm per size to help to maintain the weight distribution, with the size Large’s 449mm sitting in a good spot.

The flip chip allows the rider to choose between an aggressive and extra-aggressive setting, with a 63.8° or extra-slack 63.2° Head Tube angle and 342mm or extra-low 334mm BB height. The Seat Tube angle strikes a reasonable balance at 78.3° effective on the size Large, though it gets slacker at extra-tall saddle heights due to the actual seat tube angle.

The size Large’s 482mm Reach and 648mm Stack height are typical, and the Front Center : Rear Center of 1.86 sat in the lower-middle of the range to give a good blend of characteristics.

WHYTE SYTHE BUILD KITS

Whyte offers the Sythe in the choice of two builds kits, with the entry-level “S” build at £2,199 and the RS tested at £3,199.

The RS build offers some incredible spec highlights for its price tag. The RockShox Lyrik and Super Deluxe Ultimate suspension package is unheard of in this price bracket. The TRP EVO Expert brakes slow down the ship with excellent control. The stock Schwalbe Magic Mary Radial tire pairing gives excellent grip and control.

Of course, there are some spec concessions required to deliver the package. The mixed SRAM S200 and S100 drivetrain lacks the refinement of the T-Type packages, and when combined with the unbranded hubs, there was notable chain-induced vibration and noise. It would be unforgivable at a higher price tag, but at this cost, it’s much easier to stomach. The WTB ST Tough i30 wheels held up okay, but you get the impression that they might not survive multiple seasons of beating.

The in-house alloy cockpit and TranzX dropper post got the job done. Series sponsor Peaty’s Products provided the Monarch Pro Thin Mushroom grips and Monarch saddle to elevate the touchpoints. The color matching of the red saddle to the Sythe RS was a neat touch.

As with all of the enduro bikes in this group test, the stock tires were replaced with control tires from series sponsor Pirelli. Their Emperor Hardwall Super Soft provided predictable steering and traction across lean angles. The Blacksting DH Wall Soft rear tire was durable and offered great rolling speed with solid braking control.

With these Pirelli control tires fitted, the Whyte Sythe RS in size Large weighed 38.3lbs (17.4kg).

THE DIRT

We received the Whyte Sythe RS in the middle of summer, just as we were departing for a few days riding some of the best bikeparks in Wales. These bikeparks provided the perfect chance to get the setup dialled in and to give the Sythe RS a good shakedown before returning to Scotland and attacking the local trails.

SETUP AND FINISH | The Ultimate level RockShox suspension fitted to the Sythe RS made for excellent tuning possibilities, and allowed the character to be tailored to the day ahead. These units offered the ability to take the Sythe from a supportive bikepark-focused setup to a highly sensitive enduro bike with solid tracking ability. With 30% sag and a balanced fork setup, the Whyte Sythe was an easy machine to hop on and immediately get up to speed.

The fit of the size Large Whyte Sythe was excellent for our 5’10” to 6’2” crew. While the Actual Seat Tube angle is slacker than the Effective, the seating position was suitably well-centered even for Robert’s tall 820mm saddle height.

As with all of the test bikes in our 2026 Enduro Group Test, Robert set the front Pirelli Emperor Hardwall Super Soft tires to 25psi, and the Blacksting DH Wall Softs in the rear to 27.5psi for his 220lbs (98kg) kitted mass. Graham opted for 21psi front and 23psi rear for his 155lbs (70kg) weight. These brand new tires arrived with us just a couple of weeks before the end of our enduro group test, and much like the Whyte, we were able to hop on and feel instantly familiar.

CLIMBING | The Whyte Sythe was a bike that relied upon its seating position and lockout switch to climb effectively, rather than baking in great pedaling support to the platform. With the bottom bracket height on the lower side, the 165mm cranks left the pedals in a perilous position for dynamic climbing moves without the lockout enabled. With the lockout on, it climbed efficiently, but rougher climb sections presented a challenge for managing traction and comfort.

Though an active shock lockout system such as RockShox Flight Attendant or Fox Live Valve NEO would improve matters considerably, we have a hard time suggesting such an expensive upgrade for a bike in this price bracket. In reality, we would happily hop on the Sythe RS and hit the trails, with the pedaling dynamics fading into the background of what is otherwise an impressive ride.

The other geometry elements gave a comfortable and well-centered pedaling position, whether seated or standing, letting the Whyte Sythe churn its way up the hill in search of a gravity-fed party.

DESCENDING | The Whyte Sythe RS goes to show that although a bike is a sum of all parts, there are some parts that impact the ride quality more than others. With its top-tier suspension, solid brakes, and well-considered geometry and kinematics, Whyte successfully delivered a bike that was able to hang with machines twice the price.

With excellent geometry balance and sorted suspension, the Sythe was one of a few bikes that had no learning curve to navigate on the way to feeling confident. From the first descent, the Whyte delivered confidence and predictability that induced smiles for all of our crew. This is an impressive trait no matter the price tag, but at the value proposition of the Sythe, it’s truly remarkable. Sunk into the bike and balanced centrally between the wheels, the Whyte offered excellent cornering and confidence regardless of the gradient.

The neutral handling package delivered by the Whyte Sythe RS meant it was an effective enduro bike, no matter the trail. When pushing the limits in more groomed terrain, the RockShox Lyrik fork, frame and wheel combination exhibited a little more flex than the burliest machines on test, but did little to reduce enjoyment in the bike park. This compliance paid dividends in the rougher and rowdier sections, taking the sting off the edges and keeping the Sythe tracking straight and true.

Whyte Sythe RS Review | 2026 Enduro MTB Group Test

The overall package had a couple of elements that highlighted that it wasn’t a top-spec bike throughout, which will matter varying amounts to each rider and terrain. In faster and rougher terrain with more high-frequency impacts, the combination of the non-T-Type drivetrain and unbranded rear hub delivered increased chain feedback and noise that detracted from the quality feeling. In the likes of the PNW’s loamers and steeps, the Sythe RS would be a dream as it is. Were this our bike, we would be looking to add some kind of chain management device – such as a STFU, an OChain or a Rimpact Chain Damper – to reduce the effects of chain flail. Similarly, the wheelset was functional, but we imagine it would show signs of fatigue earlier than higher-quality wheelsets found on other bikes in this test.

The frame quality was satisfactory, if not exceptional. There were a few elements that weren’t the tidiest up close, and some pieces of hardware that showed signs of corrosion in the hex heads after just a few washes. Though there is a mudguard on the rear end, the main pivot still received a barrage of abuse from mud and spray off the rear tire, and didn’t feel to be the best sealed from the elements. But none of this felt like it would reduce the enjoyment, especially when there are free pivot bearings on offer.

All things considered, the Whyte Sythe RS presented an incredible value proposition. With the foundations performing excellently, you could happily buy this bike, abuse it for a race season, and give it the upgrades it deserves once the stock spec becomes tired.

THE WHYTE SYTHE PERSONALITY

The Whyte Sythe is a well-rounded, confident and capable descender across the spectrum of terrain, offering an incredible value proposition and only highlighting its £3,199 price tag with the slightly reduced drivetrain and wheelset quality. It sat in a comfortable, neutral handling zone, balancing characteristics and blending agility and stability well. The pedaling manners were less efficient than some, but the climbing position was comfortable and effective.

WHO IS THE WHYTE SYTHE FOR?

If you’re an aspiring enduro racer or looking to add an enduro bike to your stable without breaking the bank, the Whyte Sythe RS is an incredible offering. It’ll please riders who seek a versatile enduro bike, don’t demand the highest quality drivetrain and wheels, and are happy using the shock lockout to boost pedaling efficiency.

Buy this bike if you prioritize value and handling neutrality.

Consider another bike if you are looking for an efficient pedaler without the shock lockout, or a pointed handling characteristic.

The Wolf’s Last Word

The Whyte Sythe RS delivered excellent performance across the range of terrain and trail types. Add in the excellent value proposition that Whyte have delivered with the RS build and it’s an easy enduro mountain bike to recommend. There is impressive quality componentry for the money, and the lifetime warranty and free bearing replacements helps to give further peace of mind.
