Flylow Davis Jacket Review

FLYLOW DAVIS JACKET REVIEW

Words & Photos by Ryan Schuppert

Flylow’s Davis jacket is the brand’s air-permeable windbreaker that can be packed tightly in your riding pack year-round. Flylow has a solid following in the winter sports world, but they appear to be committed to growing their cycling apparel line with nice bits of gear. This spring season has been a wild one, and we are still seeing crazy thunderstorms, cool wind and unexpected deluges of water falling from the sky. Let us see how this lightweight jacket held up.

THE LAB
Flylow’s Davis jacket is made from 100% nylon with mechanical stretch, to allow it to be both comfortable and durable. The jacket is DWR coated to help water bead up and run off the surface. Flylow also added a drop tail to add some extra coverage for your rear end and elastic wrist cuffs to keep air from flowing up inside the sleeves while screaming down your favorite trail.

Flylow also use elastic on the sides of the hood to help it stay put while it’s protecting your head. The hood can also be rolled up and secured with a snap to eliminate it flapping around on high speed descents. When you are not wearing the jacket it stows away in its own chest pocket. The Davis is available in size XS-XXL and comes in three different colors: Dusk, Kombu/Aspen and Barn/Arabica.

Flylow Davis Jacket Review

The Davis jacket showed up on my doorstep just in time for some testing in the ever changing and unpredictable spring weather. The jacket packs up small into its own chest pocket and fits nicely into your hip pack or backpack. I was never caught in a downpour while wearing this jacket, only some light and patchy rain. The DWR coating on the jacket did a great job of beading up and shedding the water in those conditions. It is also nice that the hood is large enough that it can fit over your helmet. Flylow considers this a breathable windbreaker. In my experiences with windbreakers, those two words don’t go hand in hand. While the word breathable is a stretch, the jacket is extremely light and comfortable. It does not make you feel like you are wearing a plastic trash bag like my Dakine and Mountain Hardware windbreakers do.

The Wolf’s Last Word

The Flylow Davis jacket will be my new go-to light duty windbreaker jacket! It is a great unit and I’m stoked to have it in my pack. The comfort, light water resistance and size when packed away make it the perfect piece of gear to always keep with you in case conditions change and you need an extra barrier from the elements.
