OVER THE HUMP WITH HEMPDOG

EP2 | MT. LEMMON

PRESENTED BY SCHWALBE TIRES & RIDE CONCEPTS

As you may now I’ve temporarily relocated to the Southwest from Bend, Oregon to maximize training, gain confidence on loose and rocky terrain and generally have some fun riding new places. I’d been hearing all the rumors and glorious stories of Mt. Lemmon for quite a while so, I had to make a trip to go check it out. Most of you have probably heard of the myth the “Lemon Drop” too and I was happy to see what this region had to offer.

I joined Scott Countryman, a local Arizona ripper for some company, but sadly in this episode we only got to see about half of the legend due to winter weather and fire closures from the summer before. We managed to ride from Bug Springs, to Prison Camp and then finish on La Milagrosa, which was still a blast.

To make this half day ride happen, we arranged a shuttle with Homegrown MTB Shuttles. They dropped us off at the bottom of Green Mountain and we hiked up to the top of Bug Springs trail. The ride was projected to be around 15 miles with roughly 1,500  feet of climbing. So, we packed a lunch and brought enough water and snacks for the half day adventure.

One thing to consider on this ride is that you start out at elevation. Also, you are in Tucson so, it’s gonna get warm as well! I ended up bringing my Hydroflask backpack which holds 1.3 liters and used most of it, even on a shuttle descent. Be ready for some fast, chunky and technical descents and punchy climbing. Having Scott Countryman along was a wise decision because I knew he could hold his own on the trail and come fully prepared being a Arizona local. Stoked you could make it out for this trip dude!! Good times!

Enjoy this episode guys and I can’t wait to share some big, big news in my next video!

Thank you for watching! Till next time Mt. Lemmon.

Cheers,
