ONEUP COMPONENTS CARBON E-BAR
COMPLIANCE IS KING
Words by Drew Rohde
Touted as the most compliant eMTB-rated handlebar on the market, OneUp Components new Carbon E-Bar is features some patented technology, neat integration, and for a limited time, has an exclusive Loam Wolf discount code!
Now, if you’ve made it this far, you’ll be happy to learn that just because these carbon handlebars are eBike rated, that doesn’t mean they won’t work just fine on your mountain bike. In fact, while creating this feature and interviewing the folks over at OneUp, we found out that Yeti / OneUp Components own EWS racer Richie Rude, chooses to run these bars on his race bike, as he prefers the comfort and reduction in hand fatigue which lets him push harder for longer.
Starting out with their patented oval shape, the OneUp Component Carbon E-Bar has a distinct look that is different to traditional bars with a round cross-section. This oval tube profile is what gives the bar an incredible amount of vertical compliance, but also keeps the bar feeling very precise and stiff front to back. If you think about a circular tube, it will flex the same around its 360 degrees. Any direction impact or energy will produce the same movement, whether it be from steering or from a hard impact. The flattened profile of the OneUp E-Bar will reduce the amount these bars can move fore and aft but increase the movement up and down, meaning you get the flex you want when hitting the trail hard and lose the steering vagueness that you don’t want.

OneUp Components claims the Carbon E-Bar is 20% more vertically compliant than their competitors carbon bars and 5% more compliant than their standard Carbon handlebars, and offers a 28% increase to the fore and aft stiffness.
Most bars have a 22mm diameter here around the bend. OneUp’s Carbon E-Bar tapers down to just 20mm high, which gives it a pretty flat look compared to traditional bars.
WHY CALL IT AN E-BIKE BAR THEN?
Sure, it can and will be run by lots of discerning riders on non e-Bikes, but in order for components to get an E-Rated certification, extra safety and durability standards have to be met. It costs more money for brands to get it, but it gives piece of mind to consumers knowing the products will last. The bars are also ASTM Cat 5 DH certified, just in case the stringent E-Bike rating wasn’t enough for you.
Along with the certifications, the OneUp Carbon E-Bar is designed to reduce visible clutter and wires running around the front of your bike. A hole in the center of the bar rests between the stem’s faceplate (which means you’ll need an open stem, OneUp has those too) and there are also recessed slots with holes at either ends of the bars. These sit under the grips and allow for the wires that control power mode selection and Shimano Di2 wiring to be routed internally and hidden from site.
It’s not something you have to take advantage of – as you can see our bike didn’t need it with the AXS grouppo – but it’s there for those who can benefit from it, and we still love the ride quality and benefits of the E-Bar.
