2023 Bikepark Season Reflections

Looking back at a short but sweet season

The 2023 Bike Park season at Mammoth Mountain has officially come to close. Due to a historic 22/23 winter, it wasn’t the longest season we’ve ever had; but it certainly left us in awe of how hard trail crew crushed it this summer.

This past winter, a record 900 inches of snow fell on Off-the-Top, the iconic mountain bike trail that snakes down the backside of Mammoth Mountain. By Aug. 17 (just over a week after we closed for skiing and snowboarding), trail crew had put in enough hours of handwork to open OTT from the Summit down to Main Lodge, something we weren’t sure would be possible this summer.

As the 2023 Mammoth Bike Park season comes to a close, we’ll remember the dedication and hard work of the trail crew in opening a Bike Park that didn’t want to give up the goods this summer. But they willed it to, and we got the laps in to prove it.

In the end, 47 miles of single track and 40/52 trails were made available for riding. At 80 days, this season was short, but given the efforts that went into making it happen, it sure was sweet. So if you see someone around Mammoth with overly calloused hands enjoying a few days off before the snow flies – buy em a beer, they more than earned it.
