Giro Merit Safety Recall

Consumers should stop use immediately and contact Giro for free replacement

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada, Bell Sports, Inc. (“Giro”) announced a voluntary recall of the consumer product detailed below. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Giro Merit (GH230)

Units: 4,611 helmets

Importer: Bell Sports, Inc. of Scotts Valley, California

Hazard: The helmet straps on some Giro Merit helmets manufactured prior to January 2023 may disengage with the helmet when pulled with relatively little force, posing a risk of injury to the user.

Incidents: Giro is not aware of any incidents in the field.

Description: This recall only involves Giro Merit helmet manufactured prior to January 2023 that were sold in Australia, New Zealand, United States of America, and Canada. A Giro Merit helmet can be identified by the model name “Merit” on the rear/side of the helmet. It can also be identified by the inner helmet sticker which has the model name “Merit” written on it and also bears the alphanumeric identifier (GH230).

Sold by: Backcountry.com, Freewheel Bike West Bank, Velotech, Epicenter Cicycling, and other assorted retailers.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the helmet immediately and contact Giro for a replacement, free of charge.
