Gully’s Nepal Adventure

The plan had been in the works before the great plague of 2020 set into motion. Unfortunately, our trip would have to wait… Finally, in the Spring of 2022, Tito Tomasi, JB Bazzarini and myself leapt at the opportunity to make our Nepal adventure happen.

We flew into Kathmandu to acclimate for a couple days and get our heads wrapped around this insane journey we were about to set out on. We literally, rode our bikes to Kathmandu International airport, walked them in the front door and only took off the wheels to load them on to our first flight.

Landing in Pokhara, we settled in for our day there before catching a final flight to Jomsom. The flight was mental. Flying close to the walls of this deep valley before narrowly making it over a mountain saddle and into the airport in the mountains. Only 10 days later, this exact flight would have a fatal crash…

We were in it now. The Lower Mustang region of Nepal. Our journey would lead us into the Upper Mustang, which was the old kingdom of Tibet. Next, we would venture to 5400m up and over the Thorong La Pass and finally to the worlds highest liquid lake, Lake Tilicho.

Things went wrong, unexpected things went amazingly well. Canned tuna and Tuborg beer fuelled our massive days. It was truly the most physically exerting journey of my life and truly a trip I will never forget.
